Patriot League Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards (9.26.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell and Colgate split this week’s Patriot League Volleyball awards when the League announced weekly honors on Tuesday.

Colgate senior opposite hitter Gillian Hauschild was named Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week after she hit .513 and registered 22 kills in a pair of wins.
 
Bucknell freshman middle blocker Sidney Shaffer helped the Bison go 2-0 last weekend with 27 kills and 12 total blocks to earn rookie of the week.

Army West Point sophomore Mackenzie Lynch, Bucknell sophomore setter Caleigh O’Connell and Lafayette senior libero Katie Weston earned honorable mentions.

Player of the Week 
Gillian Hauschild, Colgate, Sr., Opp, Cranbury, N.J./Princeton HS
* Hauschild posted a .513 hitting percentage with 22 kills for a team-best average of 2.75 kills per set in a 2-0 week for the Raiders with wins over Navy (3-2) and Loyola (3-0).
* In the 3-2 victory over the Midshipmen, Hauschild had 13 kills, five digs, and two blocks in the comeback win.
* The senior opposite hitter added seven total digs and three blocks on the week as Colgate extended its program-record home winning streak to 30 matches dating back to September 2021. 

Rookie of the Week
Sidney Shaffer, Bucknell, Fr., MB, Orange County, Calif./Villa Park High School
* Shaffer finished the 2-0 week with 27 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, 12 total blocks and 33.5 points against Lehigh and Lafayette.
* The freshman recorded 16 kills and six block assists in the 3-2 win over Lehigh, and 11 kills and five block assists in the 3-1 victory versus Lafayette.
 
Honorable Mention
Mackenzie Lynch, Army West Point, So., OH, Fletcher, N.C./T.C. Robertson
* Lynch led the Black Knights to a 2-0 weekend with 23 kills, 3.29 kills per set, a .346 hitting percentage, and four total blocks.
* In Army’s 3-1 victory over American, Lynch had 15 kills, a .464 percentage and 17 points.

Caleigh O’Connell, Bucknell, So., S, Bedford, N.H./Bedford
* O’Connell registered 93 assists, 20 digs and three block assists to help the Bison record back-to-back Patriot League road wins for the first time since 2005.
* In the 3-2 victory over Lehigh, the sophomore had season-highs in assists (50) and digs (15) for her fifth double-double of the season.
* She registered 43 assists, five digs and two block assists in the 3-1 win over Lafayette.
 
Katie Weston, Lafayette, Sr., L, Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillian
* Weston recorded a season-high 27 digs in the 3-1 rivalry win over Lehigh on Sunday. She added 19 digs in the four-set loss against Bucknell.
