ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s swimming and diving program maintains its lead after two days of the 2024 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships at Navy’s Lejeune Hall. Army West Point sits in second (448), followed by Boston University in third (356). Navy currently ranks first on the men’s side with 570.5 points followed by Army (520.5) and Bucknell (390).
500-yard Freestyle
Army West Point sophomore Molly Webber took first in the women’s race with a time of 4:46.38 for the Academy 500-yard freestyle record. Lehigh junior Willa Werwaiss placed second (4:50.71) and Army junior Clara Williams rounded out the top three with a time of 4:52.40. On the men’s side, Army junior Wes Tate took first place with a time of 4:17.79 to set the program record. Navy junior Everet Andrew placed second (4:20.72) and Army senior Ian Tansill came in third (4:21.65).
200-yard Individual Medley
Navy senior Gabi Baldwin earned first place with a time of 1:59.18 in the 200-yard individual medley, while Loyola Maryland junior Lily Mead finished second (1:59.35). Army senior Aurelie Migault earned third place with a time of 1:59.65.
In the men’s competition, the Black Knights earned first and second place. Army sophomore Joey Kling finished first with a time of 1:45.70, while junior Alex Edwards placed second (1:45.99). Loyola graduate student Max Verheyen finished third with a time of 1:46.22.
50-yard Freestyle
American senior Mimi Watts, the 2023 Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Meet, took first-place honors with a time of 22.38 in the 50-yard freestyle, while Boston University freshman Han Hoang (22.51) and Army junior Meghan Cole (23.01) finished second and third, respectively.
The reigning Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Meet, Navy senior Jonah Harm topped the podium with a time of 19.49 to break the pool record, the Patriot League and the Patriot League Championship record. Loyola senior Caleb Kelly finished as the runner-up (19.74), followed closely by Army junior Owen Harlow, who rounded out the top three with a time of 19.77.
Men’s 1-Meter Diving
Navy freshman Finn Gelbach earned first place with a score of 403.80 in the one-meter diving event, while teammate junior Blakeman Shaw, the reigning Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Meet, took second place (350.20). Army junior Issac Newman recorded third place with a score of 349.10.
400-yard Medley Relay
Navy’s women’s 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Ela Habjan, senior Riley Gavigan, junior Caroline Irwin, and senior Maya Novack took first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:37.25 to break the pool record. Army sophomore Layne Peterson, senior Aurelie Migault, senior Melinda Zhang
, and sophomore Molly Webber placed second (3:37.47). Boston University senior Lara Mitchell, senior Clarissa Hoyt, sophomore Haley Newman
, and freshman Han Hoang finished third with a time of 3:41.68.
The Midshipmen took first place on the men’s side as the team of freshman Ben Irwin, sophomore Gavin Green, senior Pat Colwell and sophomore Ben Denman-Grimm recorded a time of 3:08.41. Loyola’s relay team, comprised of Joe Hayburn, Max Verheyen, Patrick Hayburn
, and Caleb Kelly, finished second in 3:08.51. Army’s squad of sophomore Joey Kling, sophomore Kohen Rankin, freshman Riley Groves and sophomore Ben Vorthmann rounded out the top three teams (3:09.79).
