ANNAPOLIS, Md. – No. 3 Holy Cross defeated No. 2 Navy, 10-5, and No. 4 Bucknell edged top-seeded Army West Point, 4-3, to open the semifinal round of the 2024 Patriot League Baseball Championship Semifinal Round on Saturday.
The Crusaders scored 10 unanswered runs after the Mids took a 5-0 first-inning lead to take game one of the best two-of-three-game semifinal round series. Holy Cross and Navy will meet again on Sunday, May 12. Live coverage of game two begins at 1 p.m. on ESPN+
The Bison took a 4-0 lead, then held on behind a complete-game victory from junior right-handed pitcher Tyler O’Neill against the Black Knights. No. 1 Army West Point and No. 4 Bucknell resume their series on Monday, May 13. Live coverage of game two begins at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Bucknell Tyler O’Neill earned a complete-game victory against top-seeded Army West Point in a 4-3 decision in game one of the best-of-three-game Patriot League Championship semifinal series.
*O’Neill held the Black Knights to three runs (two earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over 9.0 innings and 140 pitches for his fifth win of the season.
*Sophomore DH Michael Trommer hit a solo home run in the second inning to open the scoring before senior centerfielder Grant Voytovich drove in a run with a single to left field in the fifth to put Bucknell in front 2-0.
*The Bison extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the seventh inning when two runs scored on senior left fielder Jacob Corson’s home run to right field.
*Army West Point got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning when senior left fielder Ethan Ellis doubled to drive in a run. Ellis later scored on a throwing error, making the score 4-2.
*The Black Knights threatened again in the bottom of the ninth, as sophomore right fielder Addison Ainsworth’s run-scoring single cut Bucknell’s lead to one at 4-3. But Ainsworth was caught stealing with two outs to seal Bucknell’s game-one victory.
*Junior RHP Justin Lehman, the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year, took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits over 7.0 innings for Army West Point.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sophomore right fielder Jack Toomey went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead No. 3 Holy Cross to a 10-5 comeback victory over No. 2 Navy in game one of the Patriot League Baseball Championship semifinal round.
*Trailing 5-0 after the first inning, the Crusaders scored 10 unanswered runs, while senior RHP Alex Bryant earned his fifth win of the season, allowing five runs on 12 hits over 6.1 innings.
*Crusaders’ freshman catcher Van Coughlin went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Coughlin’s two-run single in the second inning started Holy Cross’s comeback.
*Toomey’s two-run home run in the third inning, before Coughlin’s RBI single started a three-run fourth to put Holy Cross in front 7-5.
*Freshman second baseman Alex Sandell hit an RBI double in the sixth to extend the Crusaders’ lead. He finished 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
*Freshman RHP Nick Harnisch tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless one-hit relief to collect his third save of the season.
*The Mids struck first, as senior left fielder Anthony Fiallo capped a five-run first inning with a three-run triple to right centerfield.
*Freshman DH Andrew Manning went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the first and a run scored for Navy.
*Mids’ freshman catcher Jack Killelea reached base four times, going 2-for-2 with one double, two walks and a run scored.
*Patriot League Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Nolan Jorgenson of Navy tossed 6.0 innings of relief, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits.
