Boston Mass. –Top seed Boston University captured the Patriot League Championship with an eight-inning 1-0 win over No. 2 Lehigh on Sunday afternoon in Boston Mass. The win marks the seventh championship for the Terriers since joining the League in 2014, and the sixth under 2024 Patriot League Coach of the Year, Ashley Waters.
With the game scoreless in the top of the eighth BU sophomore Brooke Deppiesse belted a double to center. Senior Lauren Nett then reached on an error that scored Deppiesse to put the Terriers up 1-0. The 2024 Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Kasey Ricard struck out the final four Lehigh batters to secure BU’s second straight League championship.
Ricard was named the Patriot League Softball Championship MVP. The sophomore earned all three wins during the weekend for the Terriers on their way to the title, racking up 20 strikeouts and giving up just six hits in 15.2 innings of work.
Ricard was also named to the Patriot League All-Tournament squad with teammates sophomore Brooke Deppiesse, senior first baseman Lauren Nett, and graduate student catcher Audrey Sellers.
Lehigh graduate student outfielder Emily Cimino, graduate student infielder Josie Charles and senior pitcher Katelyn Young also earned spots on the all-tournament team.
Army West Point sophomores pitcher Breanna Izzo and infielder Ashton White, and Bucknell juniors pitcher Madison Roukey and utility Bella Radican rounded out the all-tournament team.
Boston University will receive the League’s automatic berth to the NCAA Softball Tournament and will learn about their postseason opponent during the NCAA DI Softball Championship Selection Show on Sunday, May 12, at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.

*Lehigh senior pitcher Katelyn Young went the distance for the Mountain Hawks tossing 122 pitches. In eight innings, Young allowed no earned runs while striking out four and scattering five hits.
