Patriot League Cross Country Runners of the Week Announced (9.3.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh gathered two cross country weekly awards, while Boston University and Navy each garnered one award when the League office announced the awards on Tuesday. 

Boston University freshman Dan Hruska earned Patriot League Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors after logging a 6K time of 18:34.46 in his collegiate debut. Hruska finished fifth at the Ken O’Brien Minuteman Invitational. Lehigh senior Savanah Beavers garnered Patriot League Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after winning the Lehigh Invitational with a 6K time of 21:46.6. It was the first career victory for Beavers, who defeated the second-place finisher by more than 10 seconds.  

Lehigh freshman Ben Connell was named Patriot League Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week after a 12th-place finish in his collegiate debut. The rookie logged a time of 18:54.2 in the 6K race, the time by a freshman in the event. Navy’s Daisy Dastrup earned Patriot League Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week honors after her mark of 21:38.2 in the 6K at the Salisbury Fall Classic. Dastrup was the Mids’ top finisher and placed eighth overall. 

Army West Point freshman Ryan Rheam, Bucknell freshman Ethan Pratt-Perez and Shaelyn McNally, Holy Cross sophomore Joseph Mahon and Lehigh senior Aidan Lynch earned honorable mention nods for their performances this week.   
   
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK 
Dan Hruska, Boston University, Fr., Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek 
*Hruska logged a time of 18:34.46 in the men’s 6K race at the Ken O’Brien Minuteman Invite. 
*Hruska logged a fifth-place finish in his season debut. 
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK 
Savanah Beavers, Lehigh, Sr., Stanford, Ill./Olympia 
*Beavers won the Lehigh Invite with a 6K time of 21:46.6, defeating the second-place finisher by over 10 seconds.  
*It was Beavers’ first collegiate win, and her time helped the Mountain Hawks to a second-place team finish behind Delaware.  

  
PATRIOT LEAGUE M-F ATHLETIC MALE CROSS COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 
Ben Connell, Lehigh, Fr., Far Hills, N.J./Lexington 
*Connell logged a 12th-place finish in the Lehigh Invite with a 6K time of 18:54.2 score in his first collegiate debut. 
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 
Daisy Dastrup, Navy, Fr., Cottonwood Heights, Utah/Brighton  
*Dastrup logged a time of 21:38.2 in her collegiate debut at the Salisbury Fall Classic.  
*The mark helped Dastrup finish eighth overall in the event.  
 
HONORABLE MENTION 
Aidan Lynch, Lehigh, Sr., Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville 
*Lynch finished third at the Lehigh Invite (6K) with a time of 18:40.2. The Mountain Hawks earned a second-place team finish to begin the campaign.  

Joseph Mahon, Holy Cross, So., Woburn, Mass./Woburn Memorial  
*Mahon posted a 5K time of 15:49.68 to win the Wheaton & Babson Season Opener. The Crusaders also logged the team victory in the event. 

Shaelyn McNally, Bucknell, Fr., Haddon Heights, N.J./Paul IV Catholic 
*McNally set the course record in the 4K at the Father Bede Invitational with a time of 14:11.70.

Ryan Rheam, Army West Point, Fr., Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South 
*Rheam placed seventh in the Maine Dual with an 8K time of 25:55.7. The mark was best among all freshman in the race.  

Ethan Pratt-Perez, Bucknell, Fr., Winchester, Va./James Wood 
*Pratt-Perez was the top freshman finisher at the Father Bede Invitational with a mark of 19:07.9 in the 6K race.

CHAMPIONSHIPS  
The 2024 Patriot League Cross Country Championships are slated for Saturday, Nov. 2 in Easton, Pa. on the campus of Lafayette College.
