BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American captured three of the five Patriot League field hockey weekly awards when the League office announced honors, presented by Credit Union 1, on Monday. Bucknell and Holy Cross each claimed one weekly accolade.
American junior Jordan Reicher was voted Patriot League Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. She scored a goal in the Eagles’ 4-2 win at Richmond and earned a stroke in a 3-2 win over Bucknell.
Eagles’ junior Sophie Willemse received Patriot League Field Hockey Midfielder of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning goal in American’s 3-2 win over Bucknell to clinch a berth in the Patriot League Championship. Freshman Lotti Sume claimed Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Week honors, after scoring a goal in the win over the Bison and assisting the game-winning goal against the Spiders.
Bison senior Kira Leclercq picked up her fourth Patriot League Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week after recording a defensive save against American and registering her second career hat trick in a 4-2 win over Towson.
Holy Cross sophomore Mia McCloskey was selected the Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week. She made seven saves in a 2-0 shutout win over Lehigh on Saturday.
American senior goalkeeper Pauline Gineste and sophomore defender Olivia Morraye, Bucknell junior goalkeeper Sarah Althouse, sophomore midfielder Sally Hunter and senior midfielder Nicky Punt, Colgate junior forward Morgan Willis and senior midfielder Dani Palmer, and Lafayette junior defender Katie Gibb received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
The Patriot League field hockey players of the week are selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
