2025 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Academic Awards Announced (11.5.25)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University senior midfielder Gulianna Gianino was named the 2025 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year when the League office announced the honors on Wednesday.

Gianino is one of the 11 student-athletes honored on the sport’s Academic All-Patriot League team. Eight of the 10 Patriot League programs are represented on the Academic All-Patriot League squad, as American, Army West Point and the Terriers led the way with two student-athletes each.

American senior midfielder Avery Klingensmith (American Government and Justice & Law, 3.98) and sophomore goalkeeper Addison Roemer (Public Health, 3.95), Army West Point senior forward Brigid Duffy (Biology, 3.24) and senior defender Jordan Follenweider (Systems Engineering, 3.53) and sophomore goalkeeper Bridget Carr (English, 4.00) accompanied Gianino on the Academic All-Patriot League Team.

Colgate senior forward Anna Keeling (Neuroscience, 4.00), Holy Cross junior defender Mary Sommer (History, 3.92), Lafayette junior midfielder Nadia Zaffanella (Economics, 4.00), Lehigh senior forward Sophia Lis (Finance, 3.86) and Loyola Maryland graduate student defender Riley Kennel (Marketing, 3.87) were also selected to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, 

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player within his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards announced during the summer.

These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League women's soccer sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

*Gianino, the 2025 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Midfielder of the Year and First-Team All-League selection, maintains a 3.88 cumulative GPA as a Human Physiology major.
*The senior is a three-time Academic All-Patriot League selection (2023-25) and a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recipient.
*This season, she recorded a League-high 11 assists (tied for fifth in NCAA Division I), along with seven goals for 25 points, which ranked second in the Patriot League.
*The Norwell, Mass. has played in 79 career games and registered 71 points (25 goals and 21 assists), which is tied for seventh in program history.
*Gianino is only the second Terrier to collect Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors since the program joined the League in 2013; Alyssa Parisi earned the award in 2015.
