2025 Patriot League Field Hockey Championship Preview: No. 2 Lafayette takes on No. 4 Boston University

Leopards look to defend their crown against fourth-seeded Terriers

WASHINGTON – No. 2 Lafayette (12-6, 5-1 PL) will look to defend its crown when they meet No. 4 Boston University (7-10, 3-3 PL) for the 2025 Credit Union 1 Patriot League Field Hockey Championship at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex at American University.
 
Saturday’s Credit Union 1 Patriot League Field Hockey Championship Game will be available live on ESPN+ with Cory Nidoh calling play-by-play and Gabrielle DiPaula providing analysis. Live coverage begins at 1 p.m.
 
Head coach Jennifer Stone and Lafayette advanced to the League title match for the 15th time in program history and third straight season with a 2-1 win over No. 3 Bucknell. The defending champion Leopards received goals from junior midfielder Stella Malinowski and junior defender Katie Gibb against the Bison.
 
Boston University became the first fourth seed to advance to the title match since 2011. Head coach Sally Starr and the Terriers made the League championship game for the ninth time and will be aiming for their fifth title since joining the Patriot League in 2013.

BOSTON – Junior defender Katie Gibb scored less than seven minutes into the third quarter to lead Lafayette to a 1-0 victory over Boston University. Senior goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni made two saves in the 1-0 shutout. Terriers’ senior forward Caroline O’Brien posted two shots, both on goal.
 
Boston University-Lafayette Postseason History: Lafayette and Boston University meet for the third time in postseason history and the first time for the Patriot League title. The Leopards and Terriers split their previous postseason meetings, with Lafayette outlasting BU in the 2023 semifinals. BU defeated Lafayette, 2-1, in the 2018 semifinals on their way to the League crown.
