Patriot League Announces Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (3.17.25)

Five Patriot League teams garner one weekly honor apiece

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 5/3 Army West Point, Boston University, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh split the five Patriot League men’s lacrosse weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Monday.

Army West Point senior AJ Pilate garnered Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this year and fourth time in his career after leading the Black Knights with five ground balls, two caused turnovers and a goal in a win over Lehigh.

For the second straight week and third time this season, Boston University senior Will Barnes was tabbed as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week as he recorded 11 saves, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the Terriers’ 13-7 victory over Loyola Maryland.

Bucknell’s Michael Meyer earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after the junior led the Bison to an 18-17 road upset of No. 15 Colgate with a career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists.

For the first time in his career, Lafayette freshman attack Joshua Heaney was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week following a seven-goal week in two victories for the Leopards.

For the second consecutive week, Lehigh’s Sean Dow collected Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week honors as the senior went 16-of-20 at the ‘X’ with nine ground balls.

Army West Point junior goalkeeper Sean Byrne and senior attack Jackson Eicher, Boston University senior long stick midfielder Trey Brown, Bucknell freshman midfielder Anthony Panetti and junior goalkeeper Luke Renaud, Colgate senior attack Rory Connor, Lafayette senior faceoff specialist Evan Prince and Navy senior defender Ian McGullam received honorable mention for their performances last week.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Michael Meyer, Bucknell, Jr., A, East Northport, N.Y./Northport
*Meyer tallied a career-high 10 points on a career-best five goals and five assists in Bucknell’s 18-17 road upset of No. 15 Colgate.
*The junior scored goals in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 15-15, 16-16 and 17-17.
*The East Northport, N.Y. native is tied for third in the Patriot League in assists (22), tied for fourth in points (40) and tied for eighth in goals (18).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
AJ Pilate, Army West Point, Sr., D, Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa
*Pilate tied for a team-high two caused turnovers, picked up a team-high five ground balls and scored his second career goal in Army West Point’s 13-4 win over Lehigh.
*The senior helped the defense limit the Mountain Hawks to 27 shots and 15 shots on goal as the Black Knights continue to lead NCAA Division I in scoring defense (4.00).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Sean Dow, Lehigh, Sr., FO, Simpsonville, S.C./The Christ School
*Dow was dominant at the faceoff ‘X’, going 16-of-20, while picking up nine ground balls as Lehigh fell to Army West Point, 13-4.
*The senior leads the Patriot League in ground balls per game (6.71) and faceoff win percentage (.630).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week
Will Barnes, Boston University, Sr., GK, South Riding, Va./Paul VI
*Barnes, the reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, made 11 saves and allowed four goals across 55 minutes of action in Boston University’s 13-7 victory over Loyola Maryland. He held the Greyhounds to just one goal in the first half, including a scoreless stretch of 27:27 across the second and third quarters.
*The senior added three ground balls and two caused turnovers as he was part of a Terrier ride that forced five failed clears.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Joshua Heaney, Lafayette, Fr., A, Glastonbury, Conn./Phillips Academy
*Heaney poured in seven goals and scooped up four ground balls in two wins for Lafayette last week.
*On Tuesday versus NJIT, the Glastonbury, Conn. native scored his second hat trick of the season, while scooping up two ground balls. Heaney notched a career-high four goals and grabbed two ground balls in the Leopards’ 13-8 win over Holy Cross.

Sean Byrne, Army West Point, Jr., GK, Acworth, Ga./Allatoona
*Byrne delivered nine saves across 58 minutes in Army West Point’s 13-4 win over Lehigh.
*The junior improved his NCAA Division I and Patriot League-leading goals-against average to 4.24, while extending his lead on save percentage (.732).
*The Acworth, Ga., native has helped Army West Point outscore their opponents 101 to 32 this season with a nation-leading 4.57 goals-against average.

Jackson Eicher, Army West Point, Sr., A, Warrenton, Va./Episcopal
*Eicher set a career high for goals with six in Army West Point’s 13-4 win at Lehigh on Saturday.
*The senior led the Black Knights with seven points, tallying one assist, to go with three ground balls and one caused turnover.
*The Warrenton, Va. native is second in the Patriot League in points (44), tied for second in assists (22) and fourth in goals (22).

Trey Brown, Boston University, Sr., LSM, Hopkinton, Mass./Belmont Hill
*Brown led Boston University to a 13-7 win over Loyola Maryland as he recorded three caused turnovers and five ground balls and to help the Terriers force five failed clears.
*The senior assisted BU’s clearing game that went 28-for-30, including a 22-for-22 mark in the final three quarters, and helped the Terriers' faceoff unit win more than 50 percent of draws.

Anthony Panetti, Bucknell, Fr., MF, Damascus, Md./Landon School
*Panetti scored two goals in Bucknell’s 18-17 upset of No. 15 Colgate on the road, which included tying the game at 14 in the fourth quarter. The freshman has five goals and five assists this season.

Luke Renaud, Bucknell, Jr., GK, Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles
*Renaud entered the game at halftime and made two huge saves in the last minute to preserve Bucknell's 18-17 upset of No. 15 Colgate. The senior finished with six saves and is now 3-1 on the season.

Rory Connor, Colgate, Sr., A, Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset
*Connor led the Raiders with a career-high 11 points on six goals and five assists as Colgate fell to Bucknell, 18-17, on Saturday.
*Among Patriot League rankings, the senior is tied for third in goals (25), tied for fourth in points (40) and tied for sixth in assists (15).

Evan Prince, Lafayette, Sr., FO, Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton
*Prince lifted Lafayette to victories over NJIT (14-4) and Holy Cross (13-8) as he went 22-of-36 at the faceoff ‘X’ to go with 12 grounds balls across the two games.
*On Tuesday vs. NJIT, he won eight of his 14 faceoff attempts, while scooping up a game-high seven ground balls. Prince went 14 for 22 from the ‘X’ against the Crusaders, picked up a game-high five ground balls and earned his third career assist.

*McGullam finished with one ground ball and one caused turnover on Navy’s 12-9 loss against No. 11 Johns Hopkins. The senior limited two-time All-American Russell Melendez with one assist.
