Patriot League Men’s Basketball Quarterfinal Round Recap presented by PenFed Credit Union (3.6.25)

Top-seeded Bucknell hosts No 5 Navy; No. 2 American welcomes No. 3 Colgate in the semifinals

WASHINGTON – No. 1 Bucknell, No. 2 American, No. 3 Colgate and No. 5 Navy advanced to Sunday’s semifinal round of the 2025 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship.
 
The top-seeded Bison outlasted No. 8 Loyola Maryland 76-72 in overtime, and No. 5 Navy downed No. 4 Boston University 86-78. No. 1 Bucknell will host No. 5 Navy in Sunday’s semifinal round, with live coverage beginning at noon on CBS Sports Network. Jason Knapp and Mo Cassara will be on the call with Keiana Martin reporting from the sideline.
 
No. 2 American held off No. 7 Lafayette, 71-69, and No. 3 Colgate defeated No. 6 Army West Point, 84-55, to advance to the semifinal round for the eighth straight season. Chris Lewis will handle play-by-play and Tre Demps will provide analysis on the CBS Sports Network broadcast beginning at 2 p.m.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior center Noah Williamson and senior guard Josh Bascoe combined for 41 points to help No. 1 Bucknell outlast No. 8 Loyola Maryland, 76-72, in overtime in a Patriot League Championship quarterfinal game at Sojka Pavilion.
*Williamson, the Patriot League Player of the Year, recorded a double-double with game highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds.
*Bascoe tallied 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Bison, while senior guard Elvin Edmonds IV added 10 points.
*Bascoe and Edmonds IV scored the Bison’s first 14 points to help build a 17-point first-half lead before Loyola Maryland responded.
*Sophomore guards Jacob Theodosiou and Jordan Stiemke finished with 17 and 14 points, respectively, helping the Greyhounds cut the deficit to three points by halftime before trading leads six times with the Bison in the second half.
*Stiemke finished with a team-high nine boards, while senior forward Milos Ilic added 13 points and eight rebounds to help Loyola Maryland hold a 38-31 advantage on the glass.

WASHINGTON – Sophomore guard Greg Jones and graduate student guard Colin Smalls both connected on two free throws in the final 21 seconds of regulation to help No. 2 American hold off No. 7 Lafayette, 71-69, in a quarterfinal-round game at Bender Arena.
*Jones scored nine of his team-high 17 points in the second half to help the Eagles overcome an 11-point halftime deficit. Jones shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and AU connected on 7-of-11 from 3-point range after the break.
*Graduate student guard Lincoln Ball scored a career-high 13 points and added six rebounds, including three second-half offensive rebounds that all resulted in Eagles points.
*Sophomore forward Matt Mayock added 10 points, while senior guard Elijah Stephens contributed eight points and five assists for American.
*Lafayette freshman guard Alex Chaikin scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor, including 8-of-10 from distance. He hit five 3-pointers in the second half.
*Senior center Justin Vander Baan finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and five blocked shots, and sophomore forward Andrew Phillips contributed 12 points and six boards for the Leopards.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Fifth-year center Jeff Woodward posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Jalen Cox scored a team-high 20 points to lead No. 3 Colgate to an 84-55 victory over No. 6 Army West Point to advance to the Patriot League semifinals for the eighth straight season.  
*Cox connected on all three of his 3-point attempts and added a game-high six assists and five rebounds.  
*Senior guards Chandler Baker and Nicolas Louis-Jacques scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Louis-Jacques connected on 4-of-8 from beyond the arc for a Colgate squad that finished 12-of-26 from distance.
*The Raiders built a 46-23 halftime lead behind a scorching 60 percent (9-of-15) from behind the arc with Louis-Jacques and Baker combining for 23 first-half points.
*Army West Point senior guard Jalen Rucker scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Black Knights.
*Sophomore guard Ryan Curry added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists for Army.

BOSTON – Junior guard Austin Benigni led four Midshipmen in double figures with a game-high 30 points as No. 5 Navy defeated No. 4 Boston University, 86-78, in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Championship.
*Benigni shot 8-of-14 from the floor and 14-of-16 from the free-throw line while adding six assists and four rebounds. His 14 made free throws are one shy of the Patriot League quarterfinal record set by Navy’s T.J. Hall in 1994.  
*Junior forward Donovan Draper finished with 16 points and seven boards, while junior center Aidan Kehoe totaled 14 points and nine rebounds for the Midshipmen.
*Navy sophomore guard Jordan Pennick added 10 points.
*Boston University graduate student guard Miles Brewster led the Terriers with 19 points, connecting on 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, while sophomore guard Kyrone Alexander finished with 16 points and seven boards.
*Senior forward Malcolm Chimezie and freshman center Ben Defty scored 12 points apiece, and sophomore guard Michael McNair added 10 points in the Terriers’ first home loss to a League team this season.
