No. 2 Boston University Claims 2025 Patriot League Softball Championship presented by Credit Union 1 (5.11.25)

Terriers complete second three-peat in Patriot League history; earn eighth League title

WEST POINT, N.Y. – No. 2 Boston University defeated No. 1 Army West Point, 3-2, to earn the 2025 Patriot League Softball Championship presented by Credit Union 1.

The Terriers rallied past the Black Knights scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth as freshman pitcher Danika Nell went seven innings to earn the win for Boston University.

Nell was joined on the 2025 Patriot League Softball All-Tournament team by junior infielder Brooke Deppiesse, the 2025 Patriot League Softball Tournament MVP, junior pitcher Kasey Ricard and freshman outfielder Addie Lucier.

Junior infielders Ashton White and Taylor Brown, as well as, junior pitcher Breanna Izzo were selected to the All-Tournament Team by runner-up Army West Point.

Deppiesse was selected as the 2025 Patriot League Softball MVP after going 5-for-11 with two runs, two doubles and four RBIs through the weekend.
 
Lehigh freshman Kelly Fricker and junior pitcher Chloe Hess, and Bucknell senior pitcher Savannah Jones and senior infielder MaKenzie Hilling were selected to the 2025 Patriot League Softball All-Tournament Team.
 
Boston University will earn the League’s automatic berth to the NCAA Softball Championship. The selection show will air on Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

WEST POINT, N.Y. –
No. 2 Boston University used a three-run fifth inning to rally past No. 1 Army West Point and capture its eighth Patriot League softball title in program history.
*Army West Point struck early as freshman Annie Christiana led off with a first-pitch single and junior Taylor Brown followed with a two-run home run to right-center. The early surge prompted Boston University to pull starter Kasey Ricard after just two batters.
*Freshman Danika Nell entered in relief and silenced the Army West Point offense for the rest of the inning.
*In the bottom of the fifth, Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Brooke Deppiesse lined a single to left field, bringing home two runs to tie the game at 2-2. The hit ended the outing for Army West Point starter Breanna Izzo.
*Kylie Doherty gave the Terriers their first lead with an RBI single—her first hit against Army West Point in five meetings this season.
*Nell closed out the game for the Terriers, inducing a popout to right field from Caitlyn Newburn to seal the win and the League title.
*Nell threw a complete game in relief, going 7.0 innings without allowing a run. She struck out three and scattered six hits.
