WORCESTER, Mass. – Top-seeded Holy Cross scored in each of the first four innings to cruise to a 12-1 victory over No. 3 Army West Point in game one of the 2025 Patriot League Championship Series at Fitton Field.
Senior 1B Chris Baillargeon went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a two-run home run, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. He scored three runs and drove in three. Senior 2B Brendan Jones went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Crusaders’ offense.
Holy Cross junior RHP Danny Macchiarola collected his second win of the postseason, tossing a 9.0-inning complete game, allowing one run on seven hits with six strikeouts. Macchiarola has allowed just one run in 17.0 innings through the Patriot League Championship.
Army West Point senior 1B Justin Lehman went 3-for-4 with a double and the Black Knights’ lone run. Senior 2B Chris Barr went 2-for-4.
The Patriot League Championship Series continues with game two action on Monday, May 19. HOW IT HAPPENED
*Sophomore CF Gianni Royer put Holy Cross on the scoreboard first, scoring senior 1B Chris Baillargeon from second base on a sharply hit single to left field to take a 1-0 lead.
*In the bottom of the second inning, Crusaders’ senior 2B Brendan Jones extended the lead with a two-run home run over the right field wall.
*Baillargeon added another two-run homer, this one to right-center, four batters later to put Holy Cross in front 5-0.
*Patriot League Player of the Year CJ Egrie’s two-run double highlighted the Crusaders’ three-run third inning to build an early lead.
*Black Knights’ senior 1B Justin Lehman lined a single through the left side of the infield, then came around to score two batters later to make the score 8-1 in the top of the fourth inning.
*Holy Cross senior SS Jimmy King drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the fourth inning, then scored on a sacrifice fly from senior 3B Connor Peek to put the Crusaders back in front by eight runs.
*Senior DH Sean Scanlon drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single to left field to score Baillargeon, his third run of the game.
*The Crusaders continued to roll, scoring twice more in the seventh inning on a solo homer from Jones and an RBI double from Baillargeon that scored Egrie to make the score 12-1.
