No. 5 Colgate Upends No. 2 Boston University to Capture 2025 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Championship (5.4.25)

Raiders score Patriot League Championship Game-record 17 goals to secure title

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Midfielders Hunter Drouin and Liam Connor each scored four goals to power No. 5 Colgate (10-7, 4-4 PL) past No. 2 Boston University (11-5, 6-2 PL), 17-10, to capture the 2025 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse title and the League’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

Colgate becomes the highest seed to win the Patriot League title since the League expanded the championship field in 2014. The Raiders’ 17 goals in the title game and 47 goals across three tournament games are both Patriot League Tournament records.  

Senior goalkeeper Matt LaCombe was named Patriot League Championship MVP after making 37 saves across three games, helping the Raiders collect their third Patriot League crown in program history and its first under head coach Matt Karweck.

Senior attack Rory Connor joined Drouin, Liam Connor and LaCombe on the Patriot League All-Patriot League Team. The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year recorded five points on two goals and three assists.

Boston University sophomore midfielder Jimmy Kohr earned All-Tournament honors with a team-high five points on two goals and three assists. He was joined by teammates senior attack Jimmy O’Connell (two goals) and junior defender Connor Kehm (five ground balls, one caused turnover) on the All-Tournament Team.

Army West Point senior faceoff specialist Will Coletti and junior attack Gunnar Fellows, along with Lafayette freshman attack Nicholas Blalock and freshman midfielder Joseph Duggan, rounded out the 11-member All-Tournament Team.

Colgate will learn its postseason opponent during the 2025 NCAA DI Men’s Lacrosse Selection Show on Sunday, May 4 at 9:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

*Junior midfielder Hunter Drouin recorded a game-high six points on four goals and two assists, while sophomore midfielder Liam Connor added four goals.
*Senior attack Jack Turner scored a hat trick, and senior attack Rory Connor registered five points on two goals and three assists. First-year attack Casey Quinson and junior attack Ryan Favaro (two assists) each scored twice.
*Sophomore faceoff specialist Kyle Rummel went 17-for-29 at the faceoff ‘X’ and collected 11 ground balls.
*Senior goalkeeper Matt LaCombe, the Patriot League Tournament MVP, made 10 saves to bring his three-game total to 37 saves.
*Sophomore long-stick midfielder John Carrabine led the Raiders defensively with a game-high three caused turnovers and five ground balls.
*Junior midfielder Jimmy Kohr led Boston University with five points on two goals and three assists.
*Patriot League Rookie of the Year Timothy Shannehan, finished with two goals, two assists, one ground ball and one caused turnovers for the Terriers.
*Senior attack Jimmy O’Connell scored twice, while four different Terriers each scored once.
