Patriot League Football Players of the Week Announced (10.5.26)

Spiders take three of the four weekly honors, Colgate’s Wynn racks up defensive player of the week honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Richmond collected three of the four Patriot League football weekly honors when the League office announced accolades on Monday. Colgate received one weekly award.
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s football athletics communications staff, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
 
Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week
Ashten Snelsire, Richmond, Sr., QB, Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur
*Snelsire completed 24-of-38 passes for 218 yards and three touchdown passes and rushed for a career-high 69 yards with another touchdown in a 40-31 comeback win over Lafayette.
*The senior quarterback rushed for a touchdown with three seconds left in the first half to bring the Spiders within seven points after trailing by as many as 17 points.
*He tossed touchdown passes in the third and fourth quarters during a 31-0 Richmond run to help the Spiders remain undefeated in League play.

Patriot League Football Defensive Player of the Week
Tymir Wynn, Colgate, Sr., DB, Columbus, Ohio/Kipp
*Wynn registered a career-high 12 tackles, including five solo stops, with an interception and a pass breakup in a 20-17 loss to No. 22/20 Harvard.
*His Patriot League-leading third interception of the season came deep in Raiders’ territory to halt a Harvard scoring drive in the second quarter.
*The senior defensive back had a solo tackle on a 4th-and-11 to cause a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter. He also had a pass breakup on Harvard’s final drive.

Patriot League Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Ned Gray, Richmond, So., P, Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonard’s
*Gray averaged 46.8 yards per punt on four attempts, placing two inside the Lafayette 20-yard line.
*The sophomore punter recorded a season-long 65-yard punt to pin the Leopards at their own 2-yard line with 1:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, setting up Camden Byrd’s game-sealing safety.
*He leads the Patriot League, averaging 44.7 yards per punt.
 
Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week
Caleb Geronomi, Richmond, Fr., DB, Lexington, S.C./White Knoll
*Geronomi posted six tackles one interception and a pass breakup in Richmond’s 40-31 victory over Lafayette.
*The freshman defensive back recorded his first collegiate interception on the Leopards’ second drive of the game.
*He is fifth in the Patriot League with five pass breakups in five games.
 
Honorable Mentions
Matt Fogler, Colgate, So., WR, Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller
*Fogler finished with a career-high 12 receptions for 138 yards and the go-ahead touchdown with 27 seconds left in regulation in the Raiders’ eventual 20-17 loss to No. 22/20 Harvard.
 
Cooper Ackerman, Holy Cross, Jr., DE, Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury
*Ackerman posted 2.5 TFLs for a loss of 12 yards and 1.5 sacks to help Holy Cross to a 41-14 win over William & Mary. He finished with five tackles and was part of a Crusaders’ defense that limited the Tribe to 31 rushing yards.
 
Owen Saraceno, Holy Cross, So., PK, Leesburg, Va./Riverside
*Saraceno connected on field goals of 40 and 38 yards, the two longest of his career, in Holy Cross’ 41-14 win over William & Mary. He hit a 40-yard field goal at the 5:04 mark in the first quarter to put Holy Cross in front 10-7 and added a 38-yarder late in the fourth quarter. The sophomore placekicker went 5-for-5 on PATs, finishing with 11 points.
 
Jakyre Henley, Lafayette, Jr., RB, King William, Va./Highland Spring
*Henley rushed for a career-high 152 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries in a 40-31 loss to No. 17/24 Richmond. The junior running back had touchdown runs of 72 and 74 yards, the Leopards’ longest plays from scrimmage this season.  
 
Derek Morgan, Lehigh, So., QB, Goddard, Kan./Eisenhower
*Morgan threw for a career-high 152 yards and three touchdown passes to lead Lehigh to a 34-0 shutout win over Fordham. The sophomore quarterback threw all three touchdown passes in the second quarter, two to Anthony Feaster, after a scoreless first quarter to take control of the game.
 
William Parton, Lehigh, Sr., LB, Alpharetta, Ga./Milton
*Parton finished with five tackles and his first career interception which set up a field goal in the third quarter of Lehigh’s 34-0 win over Fordham. He led a Mountain Hawks’ defense that held the Rams to 42 rushing yards.
 
Daniel Sellers, Richmond, Jr., DE, Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny
*Sellers finished with four tackles, 2.0 TFLs, one sack and a forced fumble in Richmond’s 40-31 win over Lafayette. The junior linebacker had a strip sack with 33 seconds left in the first half, leading to a Richmond touchdown to bring the Spiders within seven points.
 
Ja’briel Mace, Villanova, Jr., RB, Somers Point, N.J./Mainland
*Mace rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries in Villanova’s 38-35 loss to Morgan State. The junior running back scored on runs of 52 and one yard, while totaling 244 all-purpose yards.
