2025-26 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Basketball First Round Recap (3.9.26)

No. 8 Boston U outlasts No. 9 American; No. 10 Colgate upsets No. 7 Bucknell

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 8 Boston University outlasted No. 9 American, 69-58, and No. 10 Colgate upset No. 7 Bucknell, 57-47, in the First Round of the 2026 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Basketball on Saturday afternoon.

Boston University’s Anete Adler scored a game-high 21 points as the Terriers were able to use a fourth-quarter run to defeat the Eagles. The eighth-seeded Terriers will travel to Annapolis, Md., to take on No. 1 Navy in the quarterfinal round on Thursday.

Colgate junior guard Ella Meabon scored a game-high 24 points as the Raiders earned a road victory. The No. 10 Raiders will travel north to take on No. 2 Holy Cross in the quarterfinal round starting at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Two more Patriot League women’s basketball quarterfinal-round games will be featured on ESPN+ on Monday. No. 3 Army West Point hosts No. 6 Lafayette while No. 4 Lehigh takes on No. 5 Loyola Maryland, with both games tipping off at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

Boston University used a balanced scoring attack to defeat American, 69-58, to advance to play No. 1 Navy in the quarterfinal round.  
*The Terriers set the tone early, shooting 7-of-14 (50 percent) in the first quarter to take a 16-12 lead after the opening period.
*Boston University extended its advantage in the second quarter, outscoring American 19-16, to carry a 35-28 lead into halftime.
*Both teams matched each other in the third quarter at 17 points apiece, with the Terriers maintaining a seven-point cushion entering the fourth.
*Boston University pulled away late in the fourth quarter, holding American to 5-of-15 (33.3 percent) shooting in the period to secure the win.
*Senior forward Anete Adler led the Terriers with 21 points, while sophomore guard Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir added 13 points and freshman forward Kate Allard chipped in 12 points.
*Freshman forward Charlotte Tuhy paced American with 26 points and 15 rebounds, and sophomore guard Madisyn Moore-Nicholson added 18 points.

Colgate used a hot-shooting first quarter and fended off a late Bucknell run to earn a 57-47 upset victory and advance to the quarterfinal round against No. 2 Holy Cross.
*Colgate came out of the gates early, opening the game on an 11-0 run as junior guard Ella Meabon scored six points, including back-to-back midrange jumpers.
*The Raiders continued their efficient offense throughout the rest of the first quarter, outscoring Bucknell 23-4 in the period while shooting 71 percent (10 of 14) from the field.
*The Bison began to chip into the lead in the second quarter, winning the frame 11-5 to trail 28-15 at halftime.
*Bucknell opened the second half on a 9-2 run over the first 1:10 of the period, with three consecutive 3-pointers from three different Bison, cutting the lead to 30-24.
*The Raiders maintained a 41-36 lead entering the fourth quarter after a steal and layup by senior guard Madison Schiller with 10 seconds remaining.
*Bucknell trimmed the lead to one possession, 45-43, with 5:20 remaining after Reese Zemitis connected on a right-wing 3-pointer, before freshman forward Abby Ferguson pushed the lead back to five points with a 3-pointer of her own.
*Colgate managed the clock down the stretch and converted its free throws to secure the upset victory.
*Junior guard Ella Meabon paced the Raiders with 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting, while senior guard Madison Schiller added 11 points.
*Bucknell junior forward Tuana Coskun scored a team-high 18 points for the Bison, while sophomore forward Reese Zemitis added 10 points.
