Patriot League Announces Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (3.9.26)

Boston University, Lafayette, Loyola Maryland and Navy collect weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University collected two of the five Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Monday. Lafayette, Loyola Maryland and Navy each received a weekly honor.

For the second time this season, Boston University sophomore attack Timothy Shannehan was honored as the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. Shannehan scored a career-high six goals, including the game-tying goal with 2.7 seconds remaining in regulation, to lead the Terriers to an overtime win at Lehigh.

Navy sophomore long-stick midfielder Patrick Flaherty collected Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career following a six-caused turnover and four-ground-ball performance in the Midshipmen’s victory against Bucknell.

Boston University sophomore Madden Murphy was named the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Week for the first time this season and the fourth time in his career. Murphy won a career-high 20 faceoffs and collected a career-best seven ground balls in the Terriers’ 14-13 comeback win over Lehigh.

Lafayette senior Joe Doherty received Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the first time this year and the fifth time in his career. Doherty made 19 saves, scooped up five ground balls and caused two turnovers in the Leopards’ upset win over Army West Point.

Loyola Maryland freshman midfielder Will Musgrove earned Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honors after totaling three goals and three assists in the Greyhounds’ 2-0 week.

Honorable mentions went to Boston University senior defender Connor Kehm and freshman attack Peyton Forte, Bucknell freshman midfielder Sean Murray, Holy Cross senior goalkeeper JR Long, Lafayette sophomore attack Benjamin DiBattista, Loyola Maryland junior attack Kenan Everhart, junior faceoff specialist Carson Hall and senior goalkeeper Max Watkinson.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Timothy Shannehan, Boston University, So., A, Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep
*Shannehan tallied seven points on a career-high six goals and an assist in Boston University’s 14-13 comeback win at Lehigh.
*The sophomore factored into the Terriers’ final five goals of regulation, including tying the game at 13-13 with 2.7 seconds left.
*He added three ground balls and one caused turnover.
*The Fairfield, Conn. native leads the Patriot League and ranks fourth nationally in points per game (5.67).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Patrick Flaherty, Navy, So., LSM, Massapequa, N.Y./Chaminade
*Flaherty recorded a career-high six caused turnovers and scooped up a career-best four ground balls in Navy’s 16-12 win over Bucknell.
*The sophomore’s six caused turnovers are the most by a Midshipmen since Matt Rees against Air Force on Feb. 6, 2016.
*The Massapequa, N.Y. native ranks sixth in the Patriot League with 1.83 caused turnovers per game.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Madden Murphy, Boston University, So., FO, East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville
*Murphy won a career-best 20-of-27 faceoffs and collected a career-high seven ground balls to lead Boston University to a 14-3 victory at Lehigh.
*The sophomore went 5-for-6 at the ‘X’ in the fourth quarter, including winning a faceoff with 15.4 seconds remaining to help the Terriers tie the game.
*The East Setauket, N.Y. native ranks second in the Patriot League in faceoff win percentage (.596).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week
Joe Doherty, Lafayette, Sr., GK, Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep
*Doherty made 19 saves, scooped up five ground balls and caused two turnovers in Lafayette’s 10-9 upset win over No. 8/9 Army West Point.
*The senior ranks second in the Patriot League in goals-against average (8.12) and save percentage (.543), which rank seventh and 18th in NCAA Division I, respectively.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Will Musgrove, Loyola Maryland, Fr., M, Lewis Center, Ohio/Oletangey Orange
*Musgrove finished with six points on three goals and three assists in Loyola Maryland’s 2-0 week.
*The freshman broke out with two goals and three assists in the 15-9 win over Providence on Saturday.
*The Lewis Center, Ohio native was credited with the game-winning goal in the 17-13 victory over Towson on Tuesday.

*The Glen Rock, N.J. native is third in the Patriot League in ground balls per game (5.50) and caused turnovers (2.00).

*Forte notched two goals and one assist in the Terriers’ 14-13 comeback win at Lehigh.

*Murray scored three fourth-quarter goals for his first career hat trick in the Bucknell’s 16-12 loss at Navy.

*Long recorded nine saves and two ground balls in Holy Cross’ 11-10 win over Colgate, the Crusaders’ first victory over the Raiders since 2019.

*DiBattista scored three goals for his fifth hat trick of the season to go along with one assist and two ground balls in Lafayette’s 10-9 win over No. 8/9 Army West Point.

Kenan Everhart, Loyola Maryland, Jr., A, Carolina Beach, N.C./Ashley
*Everhart totaled a 13-point week, scoring seven goals with six assists in Loyola Maryland’s wins over Towson (17-13) and Providence (15-9).
*The junior had a career-high performance against the Tigers, totaling nine points on five goals and four assists.
*On Saturday, Everhart had two goals and two assists in a victory over the Friars.
