Patriot League Announces Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (4.13.26)

Boston University, Holy Cross and Loyola Maryland collect weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University received three Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Monday. Holy Cross and Loyola Maryland each collected a remaining award.

Loyola Maryland senior attack Matthew Minicus collected his first Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week award of the season after recording six points on four goals and two assists in the Greyhounds’ 16-7 victory over Lafayette.

For the second time this season, Holy Cross’ Michael Rincon was tabbed as the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. The senior caused four turnovers and scooped up eight ground balls in the Crusaders’ 13-12 win at Fairfield.

For the third time this season, Boston University’s Madden Murphy was named the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Week. The sophomore won 20-of-25 faceoffs, scooped up 11 ground balls and scored his first goal of the season in the Terriers’ 13-12 overtime win over Bucknell.

Boston University graduate student Michael Allieri earned Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week honors after making 11 second-half saves and allowing just three goals in the Terriers’ 13-12 overtime win over Bucknell.

Terriers’ freshman attack Peyton Forte was honored as the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week after scoring a pair of goals and collecting two ground balls in BU’s victory.

Honorable mentions went to Army West Point senior goalkeeper Sean Byrne, senior midfielder Evan Plunkett, junior faceoff specialist Robert Simone, senior defenseman John Sullivan; Boston University sophomore attackman Timothy Shannehan, junior long-stick midfielder Donald Varnerin; Colgate sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Lehrman; Holy Cross freshman faceoff specialist Shane McDonnell and Loyola Maryland junior faceoff specialist Carson Hall.

*Rincon tied for the game-highs with four caused turnovers and eight ground balls in Holy Cross’ 13-12 win at Fairfield.
*The senior ranks third in the Patriot League in caused turnovers per game (2.17).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Madden Murphy, Boston University, So., FO, East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville
*Murphy dominated at the ‘X’ on Saturday against Bucknell, matching his career-high with 20 faceoff wins on 25 opportunities (.800) in the Terriers’ 13-12 overtime win.
*The sophomore scooped up 11 ground balls, scored his first goal of the season and won the opening faceoff in overtime to set-up the game-winning possession.
*The East Setauket, N.Y. native leads the Patriot League in faceoff win percentage (.594), faceoff wins (139) and ground balls per game (6.60).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week
Michael Allieri, Boston University, Gr., GK, Wellesley, Mass./Marquette
*Entering the game in the third quarter, Allieri made a major impact for the Terriers, recording 11 saves and allowing just three goals in Boston University’s 13-12 overtime win over Bucknell.
*The graduate student made a key stop in the final seconds to force overtime and played 30:38 minutes in goal.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Peyton Forte, Boston University, Fr., A, Westminster, Md./Calvert Hall
*Forte scored a pair of goals and collected two ground balls in Boston University’s 13-12 overtime over Bucknell.
*The freshman’s second goal gave the Terriers a lead late in regulation.
*The Westminster, Md. native is third on the team with 30 points on 23 goals and seven assists.

*Byrne tallied 13 saves and caused one turnover in Army West Point’s 14-9 win over Navy on Saturday.
*The performance mark Byrne’s 11th games this season with at least 10 saves.
*The Acworth, Ga. Native continues to lead the Patriot League in save percentage (.602) and goals against average (8.67), which rank second and seventh, respectively, in NCAA Division I.

Evan Plunkett, Army West Point, Sr., M, Roswell, Ga./Roswell
*Plunkett registered a game-high six points on three goals and three assists to lead Army West Point to a 14-9 win over Navy.
*The senior added two ground balls and a caused turnover.
*The Roswell, Ga. native ranks third in the Patriot League in assists per game (2.25) and sixth in points per game (3.83).

Robert Simone, Army West Point, Jr., FO, North Caldwell, N.J./Lawrenceville
*Simone lead all faceoff specialists in Army West Point’s 14-9 victory against Navy with a career-best 14 faceoff wins on .609 winning percentage.
*The junior picked up a game-high nine ground balls and added a caused turnover.
*The North Caldwell, N.J. native is tied for fifth in the Patriot League with 4.92 ground balls per game.

John Sullivan, Army West Point, Sr., D, Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin
*Sullivan, the reigning Defensive Player of the Week, picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover in Army West Point’s 14-9 win over Navy.
*The senior and the Black Knights’ defense helped limit the Midshipmen to their second-lowest scoring output of the season as Navy entered as the League’s top offense.
*The Nashua, N.H. native is eighth in the Patriot League in caused turnovers per game (1.50).

Timothy Shannehan, Boston University, So., Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep
*Shannehan led the Terriers with six points on two goals and four assists, including the overtime-winner, in a 13-12 victory over Bucknell.
*Through 11 games, the sophomore continues to the lead the Patriot League in points per game (5.27) and assists per game (2.55), while ranking sixth in goals per game (2.73).

*Varnerin finished with three caused turnovers, five ground balls and scored his fifth goal of the season in Boston University’s 13-12 overtime triumph over Bucknell.
