BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh collected three of the five Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Monday. Boston University and Holy Cross each received an award.
Lehigh first-year attack Finn Moran was named both the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week and the Rookie of the Week following his seven-point performance in the Mountain Hawks’ 19-7 win over Navy. Morgan collected his fifth Rookie of the Week honor of the season, which is tied for the second most in League history.
Lehigh senior defender Richard Checo caused five turnovers and picked up three ground balls in Lehigh’s crucial 19-7 win over Navy to be selected as the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and the fifth time of his career.
For the third time this season, Holy Cross’ Shane McDonnell was tabbed as the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Week. The freshman finished 15-for-23 (.652) at the ‘X’ and matched his season-high with nine ground balls in the Crusaders’ 15-13 loss at Bucknell.
Boston University graduate student Michael Allieri earned Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the second straight week. In his first start of the season, Allieri made 12 saves and allowed just two goals in the Terriers’ 13-2 win over Lafayette.
Honorable mentions went to Army West Point sophomore attack Brayden Fountain and senior defender John Sullivan; Boston University junior short-stick defensive midfielder Luke Davis, sophomore faceoff specialist Madden Murphy and sophomore attack Timothy Shannehan; Bucknell senior attackman Owen Kovacs; Colgate senior faceoff specialist Johnny Hartzell and Holy Cross senior defender Julian Jenkins.
