No. 2 Bucknell Downs No. 4 Holy Cross to Force Game 3 in the 2026 Patriot League Championship Series

Lagoni’s two-run home run highlights four-run seventh to lead Bucknell to a Game 2 win

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior shortstop Ty Lagoni’s two-run home run highlighted a four-run seventh inning to lead No. 2 Bucknell (27-23, 17-9 PL) to a 9-5 victory over No. 4 Holy Cross (24-28, 13-13 PL) in Game 2 of the 2026 Patriot League Baseball Championship Series at Depew Field at Marren Park.
 
The Bison brought 10 batters to the plate in a decisive seventh inning, turning a one-run deficit into a three-run lead behind Lagoni’s two-run home run, an RBI single from junior 2B Andrew Swenson and a bases-loaded walk drawn by junior CF Billy Fluharty. Bucknell forced Game 3 in a Patriot League Baseball Championship Series for the first time since 2022 and the ninth since 2008.
 
Bison sophomore RHP Everett Garber earned the win, allowing one run on two hits through 3.1 innings of relief with three strikeouts and one walk.
 
Holy Cross junior 1B Braden Connors led the Crusaders, going 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, his second of the championship series.
 
Game 3 of the best-of-three 2026 Patriot League Baseball Championship Series is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, with the first pitch time on ESPN+ to be determined. Corey Nidoh will handle play-by-play duties, and Addison Sondberg will provide analysis.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior SS Ty Lagoni hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the second-seeded Bison their first lead of the 2026 Patriot League Baseball Championship Series on the way to a 9-5 victory over No. 4 Holy Cross.
*The Bison scored four runs in the seventh inning, bringing 10 batters to the plate, to turn a one-run deficit into a three-run lead.
*Lagoni finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while sophomore RF John Calabrese went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI to lead the Bison offense.
*Garber earned his fourth win of the season, allowing one run on two hits through 3.1 innings of relief before senior RHP Hadley Maxwell tossed a scoreless ninth inning to seal the win.
*Holy Cross’ Connors went 3-for-4, a triple shy of the cycle, with his second home run of the series.
*Egrie went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI and freshman SS Owen Stelzer went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
*Sophomore RHP Jake Lenahan took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits over 6.0 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
*Holy Cross’ Stelzer lined a one-out double to left-center and scored on Egrie’s triple to right-center, breaking a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning.  
*One batter later, Egrie scored on an RBI ground out from junior 2B Alex Sandell to take a 2-0 lead.
*Bucknell answered in the bottom of the inning, as sophomore catcher Deacon Bowne led off the inning with a single, advanced to third on a double by junior centerfielder Billy Fluharty and scored on a sacrifice fly from Lagoni to cut the deficit in half.
*Crusaders’ junior 3B Ryan Grundy’s running catch at third stranded Fluharty on third base to end the third inning and maintain a one-run lead.
*Connors gave the Crusaders a three-run lead in the fourth inning, hitting a two-run home run over the fence in right field.
*Bucknell’s Calabrese drew a lead-off walk in the fourth, then scored on an RBI ground out by junior 3B Zach Selfon to cut the lead in half.
*Bison senior LF Michael Trommer saved a run in the top of the fifth inning, throwing out Stelzer at home plate before Garber came on to strand the bases loaded, keeping the Bison within two runs.
*Bucknell cut the lead to one with two on base and two outs in the fifth inning, as Calabrese reached on an infield single and Trommer crossed the plate, making the score 4-3.
*The Crusaders would escape the bases loaded jam in the fifth, getting a ground out to third base.
*In the seventh inning, Lagoni hit a two-run home run over the left field fense to give the Bison their first lead of the series, at 5-4. The homer by Lagoni was the first by a Bison hitter since April 26.
*Swenson singled up the middle to drive in another run in the seventh before Fluharty drew a bases loaded walk to plate Bucknell’s fourth run of the seventh inning, making the score 7-4.
*Connors and Grundy hit back-to-back doubles in the top of the eighth inning, with Connors crossing the plate on a ground out by junior catcher Colin Brown to get a run back for Holy Cross.
*Bucknell scored two more runs in the eighth, with Lagoni and Calabrese crossing the plate on an error to extend the Bison lead to 9-5.
*Bison senior RHP Hadley Maxwell tossed a scoreless ninth inning to seal Bucknell’s Game 2 win.
