Center Valley, Pa. - Bucknell was awarded its 13th Patriot League Presidents' Cup it was announced by Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich on Wednesday. The Bison were first in both the women and men's races, winning those titles for the 13th and fifth time, respectively.
Bucknell earned 126.25 points for first place, while Navy was the only other institution with over 100 points, coming in second (103.25). Bucknell's 126.25 are the second-most total points in Patriot League history, only being outdone by Army, which won the cup in 1994 with 127.0 points. Army placed third in this year's race with 99 points, followed by Lehigh (87.25) and Colgate (85.25). Rounding out this year's Patriot League Presidents' Cup list were Lafayette (73), American (64) and Holy Cross (60.25).
On the strength of three spring championships, women's outdoor track and field, golf and rowing, Bucknell cemented the 2006-07 Patriot League Presidents' Cup title, leading the race after both the fall and winter seasons. The Bison were also championship winners in women's cross country, men's soccer and women's indoor track and field, while finishing first in the regular-season in women's basketball and tied for first in women's soccer.
Navy totaled five Patriot League championship titles, including women's soccer, men and women's swimming and diving, men's lacrosse and men's tennis. The Mids were second in the men's cup (56.50) and third in the women's race (46.75).
With three Patriot League Championship titles, including men's indoor track and field, women's tennis and men's outdoor track and field, Army was able to place third on the men's side (56.25) and tied for fourth on the women's end (42.75).
Lehigh followed up a share of the football title and the outright claim to the regular-season in men's soccer, with the best record during the regular-season in the sport of softball, in which the Mountain Hawks finished runner up at the 2007 Patriot League Softball Tournament.
Winning the Patriot League Softball Championship lifted the Colgate women to a second-place finish in the final standings (48), while the Raider men were fifth in the men's race (37.25).
Lafayette won its first-ever Patriot League Baseball Championship title, after posting the best regular-season record. The Leopards also took home a share of the football title for the third-straight year.
American garnered the bulk of its points in the fall season, winning the men's cross country title, as well as the field hockey and volleyball championships. The Eagles were first in the regular-season standings in both field hockey and volleyball.
Holy Cross finished the 2006-07 academic year with three Patriot League Championship titles, including men and women's basketball and women's lacrosse.
Bucknell and Army are the only two institutions to win the Patriot League Presidents' Cup, with the Bison earning 13 titles and the Black Knights taking home four (1994, 1995, 1997, 2005).
The 66 points earned by the Bucknell women are the second most in Patriot League history, with the top mark being 70, which was achieved by the Bison a year ago. The margin of victory (18) is the largest ever on the women's side.
