Patriot League Alumni Chosen in MLL Supplemental Draft

Dec. 17, 2014

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Major League Lacrosse conducted its supplemental draft today and former Patriot League players were chosen early and often in the 12 round process.

The first three players selected and five of the first eight were former Patriot League student-athletes. Going first overall to Charlotte was attack Garrett Thul, Army's all-time leading scorer. Thul led the Florida Launch to an 11-8 win over the Hounds with three goals in the second week of the 2014 season and was named Warrior Offensive Player of the Week.

Cameron Lao-Gosney, a 2012 Lehigh graduate, was chosen second by Florida and the midfielder will be reunited on the Launch with twin brother, Roman, also a 2012 Lehigh graduate. Another former Mountain Hawks player went next as Ty Souders ('14) was taken by Ohio. Souders will seek his first MLL action after spending last summer on Denver's college inactive list.

The first round ended with two more Army graduates being tabbed. With the seventh pick, Rochester went with attack Jeremy Boltus ('11). Boltus missed the 2014 MLL season while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Former teammate Tim Henderson ('12) was next to Denver. The defenseman was on New York's roster in 2014 after his deployment in 2013.

Other notable selections in the draft included 2014 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Jack Runkel, of Loyola Marlyand, with the first pick of the fourth round (25th overall) by Charlotte, former Navy defender Pat Kiernan who went 42nd to Florida and Loyola attack Brian Schultz who landed with Rochester with the 95th pick.

The draft was conducted via teleconference with each team receiving one selection per round. The pool of 800 players included those not protected by their previous teams following the 2014 season and those not currently on a protected roster who registered for the draft.

Current NCAA student athletes who have eligibility remaining with the NCAA, cannot apply for the Player Pool. Upon submitting the player pool registration student-athletes forfeit any remaining NCAA eligibility. The 2015 MLL Collegiate Draft will take place on Friday, Jan. 23 in Baltimore.
