Boston University Claims 2018 Patriot League Women's Soccer Championship


BOSTON — No. 1 Boston University earned the 2018 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship, defeating No. 5 Lehigh, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Boston University’s Nickerson Field.

The score was locked in a scoreless tie until the 72:36 mark when sophomore midfielder Anna Heilferty - the Tournament Most Valuable Player - put the ball in the back of the net to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. Both senior midfielder Kelly Harris and junior midfielder Chloee Sagmoe recorded assists off the goal.
 
The Terriers, who claimed their fourth League title, outshot Lehigh 20-10. Boston University sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Fay made three saves to record a shutout victory. Lehigh junior goalie Sam Miller made six saves in the loss. With the victory, BU tied Bucknell for second place with its fourth League championship, while Colgate has a League-high 12.
 
Boston University captures the Patriot League’s automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.  The Terriers will learn their postseason matchup and destination during the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Selection Show on Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET.

BOSTON – Boston sophomore midfielder Anna Heilferty scored the game’s only goal at the 72:36 mark in the second half to lead the Terriers to the 2018 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship.
*The Terriers outshot Lehigh, 20-10, and 7-3 in shots on goal. Heilferty and senior forward McKenna Doyle each had four shots apiece for BU.
*Seven players took shots for Lehigh, led by junior forward Maggie Wadsworth, who took three.
*Boston University sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Fay played all 90 minutes, making three saves to record her fourth shutout victory of the season.
