Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (11.4.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –Lehigh picked up three of the four Patriot League Field Hockey weekly honors, with Bucknell claiming one when the League office announced honors on Monday.
 
Mountain Hawks’ freshman goalkeeper Maddie Kahn received Patriot League Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week with 13 saves and one goal allowed over two games, including a shutout win over Saint Louis (4-0) and the program’s first win over Boston University (2-1, OT). Junior defender Lenke Havas received Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for her role in Lehigh’s defensive effort in a 2-0 week.
 
Bucknell junior forward Leah Fogelsanger won Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week by scoring two goals in a 2-1 win over Holy Cross. The win helped the Bison clinch the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Championships.
 
Colgate sophomore defender Kali Williams and sophomore goalkeeper Anna Unger, along with Lehigh junior forward Drew Pecora each received an honorable mention for their performances last week.
 
AMERICAN CLAIMS REGULAR-SEASON TITLE; CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD IS COMPLETE
American University clinched the Patriot League Field Hockey regular-season title for the first time since 2013 and will host the Patriot League Field Hockey Championships at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex when the semifinal round begins on Friday, Nov. 8. The No. 2 Leopards (11-7, 5-1 PL) fell in the season finale, but posted their best regular-season finish since claiming the regular-season title in 2012. No. 3 Bucknell (9-8, 4-2 PL) finished League play with a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross to seal its place in the Patriot League Tournament. No. 4 Holy Cross (6-11, 2-4 PL) claimed the final spot in the championship based on a three-way tiebreaker with Boston University and Lehigh.
 
LAFAYETTE’S VAN DER GEEST EARNED NFHCA NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lafayette senior Lisa van der Geest was been named the NFHCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Wednesday, Oct. 30. She tied a Patriot League record with her fifth-consecutive Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week last week.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUERS AMONG NCAA LEADERS
*American junior midfielder Noor Coenen is ninth in the nation in points per game (2.13) and 12th in goals per game (0.88).
*Lehigh junior forward Drew Pecora is 17th in the country in goals per game (0.79) and 23rd in points per game (1.72).
*Holy Cross senior forward Madeline Alderfer is 32nd in NCAA DI, averaging 0.47 assists per game.
*Colgate freshman midfielder Emily Kness is third in the nation with seven defensive saves while Holy Cross junior defender Emily Devine is 11th with four defensive saves.
*Holy Cross senior goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante is fourth in the nation in saves per game (8.71) and in save percentage (.804). She is also fourth among active DI goalkeepers with a .775 career save percentage.
*Bucknell senior goalkeeper Olivia Harris is 13th in NCAA DI with a .764 save percentage and 24th with 5.53 saves per game. She is 14th among all active DI goalkeepers with a .751 career save percentage in 36 games.
*Lafayette senior goalkeeper Sarah Park is 16th in NCAA DI with a 1.31 goals-against-average (GAA) while American freshman goalkeeper Fiona Minter is 21st in GAA (1.34).

PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Leah Fogelsanger, Bucknell, Jr., Forward, Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg
*Fogelsanger scored both of Bucknell’s goals in the team’s 2-1 victory over Holy Cross to clinch the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Championships.
*The junior forward scored goals in the first and second quarter to give the Bison a 2-0 lead.
*Fogelsanger was efficient, scoring on both of her shot attempts. She finished the season with a team-leading seven goals.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lenke Havas, Lehigh, Jr., Defender, Maastricht, Netherlands/Sint-Maartenscollege
*Havas anchored Lehigh’s backline in victories over Saint Louis (4-0) and Boston University (2-1, OT) last week.
*She was part of a defensive effort that held BU to one penalty stroke goal, giving the Mountain Hawks its first victory over the Terriers.
*Havas and the Mountain Hawks defense held Saint Louis to four shots in a shutout victory on Friday.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER AND ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Maddie Kahn, Lehigh, Fr., Goalkeeper, Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City
*Kahn led the Mountain Hawks to a pair of victories, including a shutout win over Saint Louis (4-0) and the program’s first win over Boston University (2-1, OT).
*She made 10 saves and allowed one goal in an overtime victory over the Terriers on Saturday.
*Kahn stopped three shots against Saint Louis for her third shutout of the season.

*Williams scored the game-winning goal in Colgate’s 1-0 victory over Bryant on Sunday, while also helping the Raiders shut out the Bulldogs, 1-0.

*Unger made seven saves to record her second-career shutout in a 1-0 victory over Bryant on Saturday.
