CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy leads the Patriot League Presidents’ Cup standings at the conclusion of the League’s seven fall sports championships, with Lehigh, Bucknell, Army West Point and Lafayette rounding out the top five in the overall standings.
The Midshipmen have accumulated 39.25 points toward the Presidents’ Cup during the fall having claimed the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship and finishing as the runner-up in the League men’s cross country championship. The six-time defending Presidents’ Cup champion Mids also qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in men’s soccer and volleyball.
Lehigh is in second place with 37.5 points after capturing the Patriot League Men’s Soccer Championship and earning a League tournament berth in volleyball. Bucknell is in third place with 37 points having finished second in the Patriot League Women’s Cross Country Championship while qualifying for the League tournament in field hockey and men’s soccer.
Army West Point and Lafayette tied for fourth place with 36.5 points. The Black Knights claimed their second-consecutive Patriot League Men’s Cross Country title and finished as the runner-up in volleyball and women’s soccer. The Leopards finished as the League runner-up in field hockey, football and men’s soccer while improving by nearly 20 points from fall 2018.
The Mountain Hawks lead the men’s standings with 20.75 points with the Leopards close behind with 19 points. Bucknell (16.25), Navy (15.75) and Army West Point (12.5) round out the top five.
On the women’s side, the Black Knights lead the race with 24 points while the Mids have picked up 23.5 points and Bucknell has 20.75 points. American won League championships in field hockey and volleyball to place fourth with 19.25 points while Holy Cross is fifth with 18.25 points.
Patriot League Presidents’ Cup points are awarded based on a team’s performances in the regular and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving, and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team finish at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are based on regular-season standings.
Navy has won the past six overall Patriot League Presidents' Cup titles and has captured the crown in seven of the past eight years. Bucknell has won the overall title 18 times, while Army West Point is the only other team in League history to win the overall cup with four trophies. The Black Knights also won last year's men's title with a men’s final championship standings record 77 points. Boston University and the Mids tied for the women’s title with 85.75 points.
