CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy sophomore Andrew Ton earned 2019 Patriot League Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades and is a member of the six-member Academic All-Patriot League team when the League office announced men’s tennis academic awards on Wednesday.
Six of the nine Patriot League Men’s Tennis programs were represented on the squad with Army West Point, Boston University, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and Navy all placing one student-athlete on the list.
The Patriot League Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League Team honors student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The awards are nominated and voted on by the Patriot League softball sports information directors.
2019 Patriot League Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Andrew Ton, Navy, So.
* With a 3.52 cumulative grade point average, the sophomore is working toward a degree in quantitative economics.
* Ton has been named to the USNA’s Superintendent’s List in each of his three completed semesters and earned ITA National Scholar-Athlete recognition last year.
* This season Ton became the fourth player in League history to be named player of the year twice in a career.
* He finished this season with a 22-12 overall record and a 15-7 record at No. 1 duals.
* In doubles play he garnered a 21-7 overall record and a 16-4 record in duals.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
