CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Boston University freshman Erica Di Battista earned this week’s Patriot League Female Tennis Player of the Week, while Loyola Maryland senior Matt Fitzmaurice was tabbed male tennis player of the week, as the first round of tennis weekly awards for the 2020 spring season were announced by the League office.
Navy sophomore Katreina Corpuz received an honorable mention nod.
Male Player of the Week
Matt Fitzmaurice, Loyola Maryland, Senior, Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus
* Fitzmaurice won both of his matches in the Greyhounds’ spring debut in a contest against St. Bonaventure.
* He teamed up with sophomore Skyler Gates to beat the Bonnies’ No. 1 doubles team of Lukas Malmberg and Marco Rivolo, 7-5.
* The senior then delivered a 7-6 (4), 4-6, (10-1) singles win over John Rutkowski on court four.
Female Player of the Week
Erica Di Battista, Boston University, Fr., Montreal, Quebec / Academie Les Estacades
* Di Battista led Boston to a 7-0 sweep over Binghamton this past weekend.
* The freshman earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles vs. Samara Eisenberg.
* She also won at No. 2 doubles with junior Alex Angyalosy, 6-2.
Honorable Mentions
Katreina Corpuz, Navy, So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii/Punahou School
* Corpuz picked up two wins in Navy’s double header against Saint Francis (7-0) and St. Bonaventure (7-0).
* She first started the day with a singles victory at No. 3 against Anouk Ma-Ajong (St. Francis) in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). She then partnered with Meghana Komarraju at No. 1 doubles against St. Bonaventure for a 6-0 win.
