BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League recognized three first-time honorees when the first set of baseball weekly honors for the 2021 season were announced on Tuesday. Navy received two of the weekly awards, with Army West Point receiving the third.
Navy junior outfielder Joe Simourian was named Patriot League Player of the Week after hitting a pair of triples and driving in two runs in the Mids’ 7-2 season-opening win against Coppin State. Freshman second baseman Eduardo Diaz was selected Patriot League Rookie of the Week after going 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored against the Eagles on Sunday.
Army West Point senior right-handed pitcher Ray Bartoli tossed 4.0 innings of no-hit, shutout ball, while striking out six and walking one to claim Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors.
Army West Point senior outfielder Jeremiah Adams and Navy senior RHP Tommy Goodridge both received honorable mentions for their performance last week.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joe Simourian, Navy, Jr., OF, Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy
*Simourian went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples and two RBIs in Navy’s season-opening 7-2 victory over Coppin State.
*The junior outfielder also walked once against the Eagles and is batting .500 while slugging 1.500 and reaching base at a .600 clip.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ray Bartoli, Army West Point, Sr., RHP, Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott
*Bartoli pitched 4.0 no-hit, shutout innings of relief, striking out six and walking one against North Carolina Central on Sunday.
*The senior right-hander entered the game with the Black Knights trailing 5-1 and held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way to allow Army to close to within one run in a 5-4 loss.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Eduardo Diaz, Navy, Fr., 2B, Miami, Fla./Miami Coral Park Senior
*Diaz went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored and a stolen base during Navy’s 7-2 victory over Coppin State on Sunday.
*The Miami, Fla. native also walked once, was hit by a pitch at the plate, while recording three assists and one putout at second base in his collegiate debut.

*Goodridge tossed 3.0 shutout innings of no-hit relief. He struck out a team-high four batters in the Mids’ 7-2 victory over Coppin State.
