Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (3.15.21)

American and Lehigh split the four weekly field hockey honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American and Lehigh split the four Patriot League field hockey weekly awards when the League office announced honors on Monday.
 
American senior midfielder Noor Coenen claimed her fifth career Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, after totaling four points on one goal and two assists in the Eagles’ 4-0 season-opening victory over Bucknell. Junior defender Georgia Davies was named defensive player of the week after leading an American defensive unit that held the Bison to two shots, just one on goal, in the shutout win.
 
Lehigh sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Kahn earned a 1-0 shutout victory over Lafayette in its season-opener to receive Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the third time in her career. First-year midfielder Julia Gatelein claimed rookie of the week honors after scoring the game-winning goal against the Leopards in the third quarter.
 
American freshman goalkeeper Bryn Underwood received a weekly honorable mention for posting a shutout against Bucknell in her collegiate debut.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Noor Coenen, American, Sr., Midfielder, Naarden, Netherlands/Laar en Berg
*Coenen tallied four points on one goal and two assists in American’s 4-0 victory over Bucknell on Sunday.
*The Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year assisted the Eagles’ first two goals of the game on penalty corners before adding a goal of her own in the fourth quarter.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Georgia Davies, American, Jr., Defender, Ipswich, England/Ipswich School
*Davies played all 60 minutes in the Eagles’ season-opening 4-0 victory over Bucknell and anchored a defensive unit that held the Bison to two shots, one shot on goal and one penalty corner.
*She inserted the penalty corner that led to American’s first goal in the second quarter.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Maddie Kahn, Lehigh, So., Goalkeeper, Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City
*Kahn made two saves to record a 1-0 shutout win over Lafayette on Sunday.
*The sophomore goalkeeper helped the Mountain Hawks to its first win at Lafayette since 2005.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Julia Gatelein, Lehigh, Fr., Midfielder/Forward, Haddon Heights, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep
*Gatelein scored the game’s lone goal in the 41st minute to help Lehigh to a 1-0 victory over the Leopards, the program’s first win at Lafayette since 2005.
*The first-year midfielder beat the Leopards’ goalkeeper on a shot that a Leopards’ defender had blocked.

*Underwood made one save in a 4-0 shutout victory over Bucknell in her collegiate debut.
