Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (3.23.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Army West Point collected two of the Patriot League Women’s Soccer weekly awards, while Boston University, Lafayette and Lehigh all took home one, as the League announced the awards on Tuesday.

Army senior forward Erynn Johns was named the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while teammate sophomore Elise Urkov earned midfielder of the week.

Boston University defender Alyssa Bourgeois collected rookie of the week laurels, Lafayette senior Camryn Monfort earned defensive player of the week, and Lehigh senior Miranda Royds was named goalkeeper of the week.

Army senior goalkeeper Sydney Cassalia, Boston University junior goalkeeper Morgan Messner and sophomore forward Geovanna Pereira, Lafayette sophomore forward Melissa Lamanna and senior midfielder Clare Mengel all earned honorable mentions.

Offensive Player of the Week
Erynn Johns, Army West Point, Sr., F, Austin, Texas/Vista Ridge
* Johns scored a career-best two goals in a 5-0 victory at American on Saturday, to go along with one assist. Her five points were also a career-best.
* The Black Knights' 5-0 victory was their best since a 5-0 victory over Rhode Island in 2013.

Midfielder of the Week 
Elise Urkov, Army West Point, So., M, Sacramento, Calif./Sr. Francis
* Urkov recorded a career-high two assists and added one goal in the 5-0 win against American.
 * She tallied a total of four points which marks a single-game career-high.

Defensive Player of the Week
Camryn Monfort, Lafayette, D, Sr., Syosset, N.Y./Syosset
* Monfort scored the game-winner in Lafayette's first victory (3-1) of the season on Saturday with a strike from outside the box.
* She played a key role in the defense’s efforts, with the team conceding just two shots on goal in the win over Colgate.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week 
Miranda Royds, Lehigh, Sr., GK, Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham
* Royds recorded her second shutout of the season, making four saves at Bucknell on Sunday.
* She had two saves through regulation and two in overtime.
* The senior has allowed just one goal through three games, owning a 0.31 goal against average and 91.7 save percentage.

Rookie of the Week
Alyssa Bourgeois, Boston University, Fr., D, Maynard, Mass./Maynard
* Bourgeois helped BU's backline limit Holy Cross to four shots overall and two on goal in the team’s 1-0 shutout.
 
Honorable Mentions
Sydney Cassalia, Army West Point, Sr., GK, Ohama, Neb./Millard West
* Casslia tallied one save in her fourth shutout of the year as the Black Knights defeated American, 5-0.

Morgan Messner, Boston University, Jr., GK, Drexel Hill, Pa./The Episcopal Academy
* Messner made two saves and picked up her second shutout win (1-0) over Holy Cross this past weekend.

Geovanna Pereira, Boston University, So., F, Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade College Prep
* Pereira scored her second-straight game-winning goal in the 23rd minute at Holy Cross when she put in a rebound from inside the six-yard box.

Melissa Lamanna, Lafayette, So., F, Markham, Ontario/Saint Brother Andrew Catholic
* Lamanna scored the Leopards’ opening goal in the team’s 3-1 win over Colgate on Saturday.

Maggie Pohl, Lafayette, Sr., GK, Manheim, Pa./Hempfield
* Pohl earned a clean sheet and made a save in her 45 minutes of action on seven shots faced against Colgate.

Clare Mengel, Lafayette, Sr., M, Southport, Conn./Ludlowe
* Mengel tallied her first career point with an assist on the game-winning goal in the Leopards’ 3-1 win against Colgate.
