BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lafayette claimed two of the four Patriot League field hockey weekly awards when the League office announced honors on Monday. Boston University and Bucknell each received one weekly accolade.
Lafayette senior midfielder Audrey Sawers was named Patriot League Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week after finishing with one goal and one assist in the Leopards’ 2-1 overtime win versus Holy Cross. Sophomore Simone Hefting was named defensive player of the week after leading Lafayette’s defense in limiting the Crusaders to seven shots with three on goal. She also scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
Bucknell sophomore goalkeeper Clara McCormick collected her first Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week after totaling 11 saves in a 2-1 double-overtime victory against American on Sunday.
Boston University freshman midfielder Thalia Steenssens was named Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Week after assisting both of the Terriers’ goals in a 2-1 victory over Colgate to remain undefeated.
Sophomore forward Ellie McIntyre, Bucknell freshman Olivia Bush, senior forward Leah Fogelsanger and senior defender Kaelyn Long received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Audrey Sawers, Lafayette, Sr., Midfielder, North Vancouver, B.C./Handsworth
*Sawers had a hand in both of Lafayette’s goals, compiling three points with one goal and one assist in the Leopards’ 2-1 overtime victory over Holy Cross.
*The senior forward scored in the third quarter to give Lafayette a 1-0 lead before assisting Simone Hefting’s game-winning goal in overtime.
*She tied for a game-high four shots, including two in the fourth quarter.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

*Hefting led a Leopards’ defensive effort that held Holy Cross to seven shots and three shots on goal in a 2-1 overtime victory.
*The sophomore defender scored the game-winning goal in overtime for her second collegiate goal.
*Hefting and the Leopards’ defense only allowed one shot on goal after the Crusaders’ third-quarter goal.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Clara McCormick, Bucknell, So., Goalkeeper, Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy
*McCormick made 11 saves to earn her first collegiate win in Bucknell’s 2-1 double-overtime victory vs. American on Sunday.
*The Pittsburgh, Pa. native made four saves in the fourth quarter, then one apiece in the first and second overtime periods.
*McCormick has a 1.72 goals-against average and .765 save percentage while seeing action in three of the Bison’s four games this season.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

*Steenssens recorded two assists in Boston University’s 2-1 victory over Colgate.
*The freshman midfielder assisted Kathryn Scheerer’s goal at the 19:54 mark in the second quarter to tie the score at one.
*Her assist on Ellie McIntyre’s goal gave BU the lead at the 27:58 mark in the second quarter.

*Fogelsanger scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to lift Bucknell to a 2-1 victory over American on Sunday.
