Patriot League Baseball Players of the Week Announced (3.9.21)

Lafayette claims two weekly honors; Lehigh picks up one

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior outfielder Eric Cichocki and Lafayette sophomore right-handed pitcher Jordan Yoder claimed Patriot League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively when the League announced weekly honors on Tuesday. Leopards’ freshman centerfield Justin Grech was named rookie of the week.
 
Cichocki batted .500 (7-for-14) in a four-game series against George Washington to claim Patriot League Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week. The senior outfielder is second in the League with a .522 batting average.  
 
Yoder claimed his first Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honor after picking up a victory over Wagner on Saturday. The sophomore right-hander allowed two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings while striking out eight. Grech batted .625 (5-for-8) while scoring five runs and driving in three during the Leopards’ first weekend of play.
 
Lehigh freshman RHP Lucas Rich received a weekly honorable mention for his performance in his collegiate debut last week.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Eric Cichocki, Lehigh, Sr., OF, Zionsville, Pa./Emmaus
*Cichocki batted .500 (7-for-14) with three doubles and three runs scored during Lehigh’s four-game weekend series against George Washington. He slugged .714 and reached base at a .563 clip.
*In the first game on Saturday, Cichocki went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks.
*On Sunday, he went 2-for-3 with two doubles in the first game before going 3-for-5 with a double, one run scored and a sacrifice in the second game.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Yoder, Lafayette, So., RHP, Allen, Texas/Lovejoy
*Yoder picked his first victory of the season against Wagner, allowing two earned runs on five hits over 6.0 innings on Saturday.
*The sophomore right-hander struck out eight batters and walked one in his first outing of the season.
*Yoder held the Seahawks to a .217 batting average.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Justin Grech, Lafayette, Fr., CF, Southlake, Texas/Carroll
*Grech batted .625 (5-for-8) with five runs scored and three RBIs to help Lafayette split a two-game series against Wagner.
*The freshman centerfielder led-off both games, hitting a triple in his first collegiate at-bat. He homered to lead-off the Leopards’ second game and slugged 1.250 during the two-game weekend.
*Grech reached base at a .700 clip during Lafayette’s opening weekend.
