BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University senior Emily Kim was named the Patriot League Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete and was one of the student-athletes on the seven-member Academic All-League team when it announced by the League office Friday.
Seven of the nine institutions were represented on the academic team, with Army West Point, BU, Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and Navy all placing one representative on the team.
Three All-Academic selections were named to the Patriot League Women’s Tennis All-League teams on Tuesday.
The selection process was conducted by the League’s women’s tennis sports information directors, who could not vote for their student-athletes.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for the honors.
2021 Patriot League Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Emily Kim, Boston University, Sr., Plano, Texas/Plano West Senior
* Kim carries a 3.85 cumulative GPA as a human physiology major at Boston University. She also has a minor in public health.
* Since December, the senior has served as a self-care assistant at a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She supported ongoing vaccination efforts by covering patient screenings and scheduling of second vaccine doses.
* Kim also was a remote clinical research assistant with an orthopedic oncology lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she worked on projects that track surgical outcomes by gathering historical patient health data.
* Kim is a three-time ITA National Scholar-Athlete (2018-20) honoree and a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member (2018-20).
* In 2019, Kim was named to the Patriot League Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team, the postseason All-League second-team and was part of the doubles team of the year.
* Kim finished her senior year with 106 career victories (56 singles, 50 doubles).
