BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy captured its seventh-consecutive Patriot League Presidents’ Cup, winning six League championships during the 2020-21 academic year to lead the overall standings. Army West Point finished atop the men’s Presidents’ Cup standings, while Boston University claimed the women’s championship.
Navy’s current streak of seven overall titles tied Bucknell (1998-2004) for the most consecutive Presidents’ Cup titles.
The Mids accumulated 107.25 points with League titles in women’s golf, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, women’s rowing, women’s soccer and men's tennis. Army West Point finished second with 104 points, capturing League championships in baseball, men’s cross country and women’s volleyball. Boston University placed third overall with 101 points winning three League titles, while Bucknell earned fourth place in the overall standings with 100 points and the program’s first field hockey championship. Lehigh (92.75), Colgate (76), Lafayette (69.25), Loyola Maryland (65.5), Holy Cross (63.5) and American (48.25) round out the 2020-21 overall standings.
Army West Point claimed the men’s title for the third time since the 2016-17 season with 50, with Navy close behind in second place with 48.75. Bucknell finished third with 41.25, while Lafayette (43) and Lehigh (40.5) claimed fourth and fifth place, respectively. Loyola Maryland (33.75), Colgate (31.25), Boston University (30), Holy Cross (27.75) and American, (21) complete the 2020-21 men’s standings.
The Terriers earned their third women’s title in five years by accumulating 71 points. Bucknell (58.75) edged Navy (58.5) for second place by a quarter of a point, as Army West Point (54) and Lehigh (52.25) rounded out the top five in the women’s standings. Colgate (44.75), Holy Cross (35.75), Loyola Maryland (31.75), American (27.25) and Lafayette (26.25) make up spots six through 10 in the 2020-21 women’s standings.
The Patriot League Presidents' Cup is awarded to the member institution with the highest cumulative sports point total for their Patriot League standings in sponsored men's and women's sports. Points are awarded based upon a combination of an institution's regular-season and tournament finishes in each sport.
If there is no Patriot League Championship, points are awarded based upon the final regular-season standings. If there is no regular-season competition and the champion is determined by a Patriot League Championship, points are awarded based upon final Championship standings. If all teams compete in the Patriot League Championship and there is a regular-season competition, points are awarded based on an average of final regular-season standings and tournament finish. If all teams do not participate in the Patriot League Championship and there is a regular-season competition, points are awarded based upon an average of final season standings and tournament finish. For those teams not participating in the Championship, the final regular-season standings will are utilized.
Bucknell leads all programs with 18 overall Patriot League Presidents' Cup titles, with Navy second with eight and Army West Point with four trophies. The three schools are the only winners of the overall title in League history.
