BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s Gerard Sweeney and Justin Butler received Patriot League Baseball Player and Rookie of the Week when the League office announced honors on Tuesday. Bucknell junior RHP Will Greer earned pitcher of the week.
Lehigh senior first baseman Gerard Sweeney collected Patriot League Player of the Week after driving in 15 runs and scoring nine times during the Mountain Hawks’ 6-0 week.
Bucknell junior RHP Will Greer claimed Patriot League Pitcher of the Week after tossing 8.0 scoreless innings to win against Navy on Friday.
Lehigh freshman catcher/outfielder Justin Butler hit four home runs and drove in nine runs last week to capture Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for the first time.
Army West Point IF/DH Ross Friedrick and sophomore RHP Matthew Ronnebaum, Bucknell sophomore shortstop Anthony Sherwin and Lehigh senior LHP Luke Rettig received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gerard Sweeney, Lehigh, Sr., 1B, Havertown, Pa./The Shipley School
*Sweeney homered twice, drove in 15 runs and scored five while batting .346 (9-for-26) to help Lehigh go 6-0 last week with a four-game sweep over St. Bonaventure.
*The senior first baseman went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in a victory over Fairleigh Dickinson to open the week on Tuesday.
*He went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs to close a four-game sweep over the Bonnies on Sunday.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Will Greer, Bucknell, Jr., RHP, Cohasset, Mass./Roxbury Latin
*Greer pitched 8.0 scoreless innings in Bucknell’s 12-2 series-opening win against Navy.
*The junior right-hander scattered six hits and struck out four to earn his second win of the season.
*The Cohasset, Mass native held the Mids to a .200 batting average.
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Justin Butler, Lehigh, Fr., C/OF, Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown
*Butler hit .391 (9-for-23) with four home runs, nine RBIs and eight runs during the Mountain Hawks' 6-0 week.
*The Quakertown, Pa. native slugged 1.043 and reached base at a .423 clip while posting three multi-hit games.
*The freshman went 4-for-6 with two home runs and five RBIs in a win over St. Peter’s on Wednesday.

*Friedrick batted .545 (6-for-11) while slugging .636 and reaching base at a .583 clip during the Black Knights’ three-game series against Elon.
Matthew Ronnebaum, Army West Point, So., RHP, Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West
*Ronnebaum secured his first career save after tossing a scoreless ninth inning in the Black Knights’ 6-5 win over Elon on Sunday.
Anthony Sherwin, Bucknell, So., SS, Harrison City, Pa.
*Sherwin batted .481 (13-for-27) while slugging .630 and posting a .500 on-base percentage to help Bucknell go 3-3 last week, including taking three out of four games against Navy. He scored six runs and drove in five runs.
Luke Rettig, Lehigh, Sr., LHP, Oxford, Pa./Oxford
*Rettig pitched allowed one unearned run on five hits over 7.0 innings to earn a win in Lehigh’s 5-1 decision over St. Bonaventure on Friday. He struck out seven and walked one.
