BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Navy freshman Emily Tannenbaum earned the Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the first time this season when the League office announced the awards on Tuesday.
In addition, Navy senior Derrick Thompson was named the men’s tennis player of the week for the second time this season.
Army West Point senior Caroline Vincent, Bucknell sophomore Harrison Gold, Colgate junior Emily Untermeyer and Lehigh junior Matt Kleiman were placed on the honorable mention list.
Patriot League Men’s Player of the Week
Derrick Thompson, Navy, Sr., Towson, Md./Gilman School
* Thompson posted a pair of victories during Navy’s 7-0 victory at Colgate this past weekend to help the Mids improve to 6-0 in League play.
* The senior paired with sophomore Sasha Panyan for a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Colgate’s Nate Romig and Jack Selati.
* He then recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Selati.
Patriot League Women’s Player of the Week
Emily Tannenbaum, Navy, Fr., Commack, N.Y./Commack
* Tannenbaum went 4-0 last week with a pair of wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles against Loyola Maryland and Boston University.
* In the team’s win against Loyola, the freshman defeated Lauren Manwiller (6-1, 6-0) on court two to go with a 6-1 No. 3 doubles win with teammate Casey Accola.
* Tannenbaum recorded a 6-3, 6-3 No. 2 singles win over 2021 Patriot League Rookie of the Year and Tournament MVP, BU sophomore Kaitlin Tan. She and Accola earned a No. 3 doubles victory (7-5) over Victoria Carlsten and Sydney Sharma.
* Tannenbaum now has 24 singles wins this season, tied for the fifth-most for a single season in team history.
Honorable Mention
Caroline Vincent, Army West Point, Sr., Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades
* Vincent went a combined 4-0 in doubles and singles play against Bucknell and Colgate.
Victoria Carlsten, Boston University, So., Malmo, Sweden/Korrespondensgymnasiet
* Carlsten earned a 6-0, 6-1 No. 1 singles against Navy’s Jillian Taggart as the team defeated the Midshipmen, 5-2.
Harrison Gold, Bucknell, So., Aventura, Fla./Score at the Top Academy
* Gold picked up wins at No. 1 singles and doubles in Bucknell’s 7-0 sweep of Lafayette on Saturday in Easton. He is now 13-4 at No. 1 doubles this season, including a 4-0 mark with Mueller.
Emily Untermeyer, Colgate, Jr., Dallas, Texas/Valor Christian
* Untermeyer went 3-1 this past weekend against Army and Monmouth. She improved her singles win-streak to five matches with wins over Army on the No. 5 court and Monmouth on the No. 4 court.
Matt Kleiman, Lehigh, Jr., Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery
* Kleiman picked up his 11th win of the season, defeating Army’s AJ Woodman in No. 2 singles (7-5, 6-4) to give the Mountain Hawks a 3-0 lead.
