Patriot League Baseball Players of the Week Announced (2.21.23)

Leopards win two of the three weekly honors; Mountain Hawks receive one

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lafayette claimed two of the three Patriot League baseball weekly awards when the League office announced the first set of honors on Tuesday. Lehigh received the remaining accolade.
 
Lafayette junior infielder Blaze Fadio was named Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week after batting .357 (5-for-14) with three runs and three RBIs during a four-game series against Southeastern Louisiana. Freshman catcher Ethan Swidler earned rookie of the week honors after hitting .500 (3-for-6) with a home run in two games against the Lions.
 
Lehigh fifth-year 1B/RHP Casey Rother collected Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week. He received a save after working 3.0 scoreless innings of relief in the Mountain Hawks’ 5-3 win over Bethune-Cookman.
 
Army West Point junior catcher Derek Berg, Bucknell sophomore 3B Sean Keys and Holy Cross junior RHP Matt Remley all received honorable mentions for their performances last week.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Blaze Fadio, Lafayette, Jr., INF, Audubon, N.J./Audubon
*Fadio batted .357 (5-for-14) and slugged .714 while driving in three runs and scoring three runs in Lafayette’s four games against Southeastern Louisiana.  
*The junior infielder went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader before going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles on Sunday.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Casey Rother, Lehigh, 5th, 1B/RHP, Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area
*Rother threw 3.0 scoreless innings and struck out five batters to earn a save in Lehigh’s season-opening 5-3 victory over Bethune Cookman.
*The Patriot League Baseball Preseason Player of the Year faced nine Wildcats’ batters over the final three innings to seal a victory in the Mountain Hawks’ win on Friday.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ethan Swidler, Lafayette, Fr., C, San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest
*Swidler batted .500 (3-for-6) and slugged 1.000 with a home run in a pair of games against Southeastern Louisiana.
*The San Diego, Calif. native went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the second game of the Leopards’ doubleheader with the Lions.  
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Derek Berg, Army West Point, Jr., C/UTL, Conroe, Texas/Conroe
*Berg batted .333 (4-for-12) with two runs and one RBI to help the Black Knights take two of three games from Air Force. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double in Army’s 5-2 win over the Falcons.
 
Sean Keys, Bucknell, So., 3B, Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields
*Keys batted .300 (3-for-10) and slugged .600 with one home run and two RBIs during Bucknell’s three-game series with No. 5 Louisville. On Sunday, he went 2-for-4 with a home run in a 5-3 loss against the Cardinals. 
 
Matt Remley, Holy Cross, Jr., RHP, North Andover, Mass./St. John’s Prep
*Remley threw 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three and walking two in Holy Cross’s 12-3 win over Holy Cross in game two of their doubleheader on Saturday.
