BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Patriot League Tennis Players of the Week winners were announced on Tuesday as Lehigh senior Matt Kleiman was named male player of the week. Boston University graduate student Shelly Yaloz earned female player of the week honors.
Army West Point freshman Maria Drobotova and Boston U sophomore Adrian Pawlowski each received honorable mentions.
Male Player of the Week
Matt Kleiman, Lehigh, Sr., Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery
*Kleiman’s No. 1 singles win lifted the Mountain Hawks to a comeback victory over IUPUI.
*The senior lost his first-set tiebreak but rallied back with convincing wins in the second and third sets to take the match, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2.
*He now has two consecutive No. 1 singles match-clinching victories.
Female Player of the Week
Shelly Yaloz, Boston University, Gr., Queens, NY/Laurel Springs
*Against No. 43 Denver, Yaloz upset No. 65 Taylor Melville in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 6-4).
*She also recorded No. 1 singles wins over CSUN (6-1, 4-6, 6-3), Cal State Fullerton 6-4, 6-3) and Long Beach State (6-4, 6-1).
*In doubles action, the graduate student and partner Michelle Kleynerman earned a 6-1 win over Cal State Fullerton.
HONORABLE MENTION
Maria Drobotova, Army West Point, Fr., Boca Raton, Fl.
*The freshman defeated Rollins College, 6-4, 6-3, in singles play. She and partner Isabella Brilliant earned a pair of doubles wins over Florida Gulf Coast (7-6) and Rollins (6-0).
Adrian Pawlowski, Boston University, So., Sarasota, Fla./Riverview
*Pawlowski won both his singles match, 6-2, 7-6(5), and doubles match, 7-5, over UC Riverside.
