No. 1 Bucknell and No. 2 Boston University Advance to 2024 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship Game (11.7.24)

Bison handle Greyhounds; Terriers top Black Knights in 2OT to advance to title game

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Top-seeded Bucknell (12-4-2, 7-2-0 PL) advanced to host No. 2 Boston University (6-7-6, 5-0-4 PL) in the 2024 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship Game.

The Bison and Terriers will play for the League title and an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA DI Women’s Soccer Championship on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium.

No. 2 Boston University rallied from a 1-0 deficit to edge No. 3 Army West Point (12-6-1, 5-3-1 PL), 2-1, in overtime, as junior forward Margy Porta scored her eighth goal of the season in the 109th minute.

No. 1 Bucknell got goals from freshman forward/midfielder Katie Connell, junior midfielder Sydney Hess, senior forward Paige Temple, and senior midfielder Teresa Deda to down No. 4 Loyola Maryland (8-6-5, 3-3-3 PL), 4-0. All-League goalkeeper Jess Benattar made three saves in the shutout win for the Bison.

BOSTON, Ma. – Boston University junior forward Margy Porta scored in the second overtime period to lift the No. 2 Terriers to a 2-1 comeback win over No. 3 Army West Point in the semifinal round of the 2024 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship on Thursday at Nickerson Field.

*Porta's overtime score in the 109th minute sent Boston University to the title game for the first time since 2021 and seventh time overall.

*Army West Point senior forward Kaelan Bradley gave the Black Knights a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute, as she converted a penalty kick for her seventh goal of the season.

*The Terriers answered in the 68th minute when senior forward Morgan Fagan tied the game at 1-1 with her second goal of the year off a pass from Giulianna Gianino.

*Boston University freshman goalkeeper Bridgit Carr made four saves and allowed one goal.

*Army West Point senior and 2024 Patriot League Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year Sage Strohman made five saves and allowed two goals in the loss.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – No. 1 Bucknell scored two goals in both halves to defeat No. 4 Loyola Maryland, 4-0, and advance to the 2024 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship Game for the fourth straight season.

*Bucknell freshman forward/midfielder Katie Connell tallied her second goal of the year on an assist from senior forward Paige Temple in the 15th minute to put the Bison ahead, 1-0.

*The Bison extended the lead to 2-0 at the 34:04 minute mark when junior midfielder Sydney Hess found the back of the net on a pass from three-time Patriot League Women’s Soccer Midfielder of the Year Teresa Deda, who leads the League with nine assists.

*Temple collected her third point of the game with a goal in the 50th minute on an assist from Schiano to stretch the Bucknell lead to 3-0.

*Deda pushed the Bison’s advantage to 4-0 in the 60th minute with her career-high 10th goal of the season on an assist from Connell.

*Bucknell junior goalkeeper Jess Benattar made two saves to record her eighth shutout of the year.
