Patriot League Boat of the Week Announced (4.10.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Lehigh’s First Varsity Eight+ boat was named the Patriot League Boat of the Week when the League announced the award on Wednesday. 

Boat of the Week 
Lehigh University’s First Varsity Eight+ 
Regatta: Lake Nockamixon, Quakertown, Pa. / 2,000 meters 
*The Mountain Hawks crew earned two victories in their spring opener with an 8:08.7 time in their first race of the day. In race number two, they improved their mark to 8:04.7 in another victory.

Race Notes 

*Battling tough winds and unfavorable conditions, Lehigh overtook Fairfield and Iona to win the season-opening race. 

*The Mountain Hawks crew defeated Loyola (Md.) in a dual in their second race, defeating their Patriot League foe by over 20 seconds. 
 

Honorable Mention 
Holy Cross First Varsity Eight+ 
Regatta: Malden Racing Series – Malden, Mass. / 2,000 meters 
*The Crusaders earned a win over the Coast Guard, Trinity and Tufts with a 2,000-meter time of 7.25.27. It was the first win of the spring season for the Holy Cross First Varsity Eight+. 

Navy First Varsity Eight+ 
Regatta: Atlantic 10 Invitational – Overpeck Park, Leonia, N.J. / 2,000 meters 
*Navy took second in their opening race of the day, narrowly losing to R/V Columbia and besting Marist. The Mids won their evening competition, defeating the crews of Rhode Island and Bucknell with a winning time of 7:38.74.

PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP 
The 2024 Patriot League Women’s Rowing Championship will be held on Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. on Friday, May 17. Patriot League members Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland, MIT and Navy will compete in the full-field championship, which features Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four Races. The winning team receives the Patriot League's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. Navy is the defending Patriot League champions.
