BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University and Navy split the 2024 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Major Awards when the All-Patriot League Teams and major awards were announced on Thursday by the League office.
BU senior Victoria Carlsten was named this year’s Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, while Rookie of the Year went to teammate freshman Uma Bakaityte.
Navy’s duo of Samantha Johns and Sia Chaudry were named the Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year, while Mids’ head coach Keith Puryear earned coach of the year.
Seven out of nine League teams are represented on the two All-League teams. BU and Navy both placed three student-athletes on the teams, followed by Army West Point and Lehigh with two apiece. Bucknell, Colgate and Lafayette all recorded one honoree.
The Major Awards and All-League teams were voted on by the nine Patriot League head coaches who could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.
2024 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Year
Victoria Carlsten, Boston University, Sr.
* Carlsten finished the season with a 13-6 record in No. 1 singles in dual matches.
*The senior recorded a 4-0 Patriot League record.
2024 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year
Uma Bakaityte, Boston University, Fr.
* Bakaityte recorded a 7-0 record in Patriot League singles matches this season, including two wins over Navy’s Samantha Johns.
2024 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Year
Samantha Johns/Sia Chaudry, Navy
* Johns and Chaudry earned a 15-10 overall record in League play in No. 1 doubles for the Midshipmen.
* The duo concluded the 2024 season 5-2 in Patriot League play on court one.
2024 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year
Keith Puryear, Navy
* Puryear guided the Midshipmen to a 24-5 overall record and a 4-1 mark in Patriot League action.
* The Midshipmen captured their first Patriot League championship title in program history after defeating top-seeded BU.
