Patriot League Announces Men’s and Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards (4.9.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Boston University and Holy Cross split this week’s Patriot League tennis awards when the League announced the winners on Tuesday.
 
Holy Cross senior Declan O'Flynn went 4-0 in singles and doubles play against League rivals BU and Navy, earning him Patriot League Men’s Player of the Week.
 
Terrier freshman Uma Bakaityte was named women’s player of the week after her singles win clinched BU’s victory over Navy to keep them undefeated in Patriot League play.
 
Army West Point senior Jake Huarte and junior Jenna Sabile, BU sophomore Corey Craig, Bucknell sophomore Amar Tahirovic, Colgate junior Addie Eklund, Lehigh junior Hamsa Javagal and Navy sophomore Herrick Legaspi earned honorable mentions.

Men’s Player of the Week
Declan O'Flynn, Holy Cross, Sr., Ipswich, Mass./ Ipswich
*The senior went 4-0 in singles and doubles action against League opponents Navy and BU.
*In Holy Cross’ 4-3 win over Navy, he scored victories at No. 3 singles (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) and No. 2 doubles (6-3).
*In the Crusaders’ 4-2 loss to BU, O’Flynn picked up a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) singles win on court three and a 7-5 doubles win on court two.
*O’Flynn is now 6-0 in Patriot League singles play this season.
 
Women’s Player of the Week
Uma Bakaityte, Boston University, Fr., Kaunas, Lithuania/Kaunas Jesuit 
*In BU’s 4-2 victory over League rival Navy, Bakaityte clinched the win for the Terriers with a 6-4, 7-6 (7) singles win over the Mids’ Samantha Johns on court two.
*The freshman is undefeated in Patriot League singles play this season.

Jake Huarte, Army West Point, Sr., Tustin, Calif./Mater
*Huarte clinched the Black Knights’ deciding point in a 4-3 victory over St. Bonaventure, with a 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 victory on court two.
 
Jenna Sabile, Army West Point, Jr., Fullerton, Calif./Troy
*In the Black Knights’ 7-0 win over Bucknell, the junior earned a No. 2 singles win (6-3, 6-3) and a No. 2 doubles win (6-3).
 
Corey Craig, Boston University, So., Coconut Creek, Fla./Monarch
*In BU’s 4-2 win over Holy Cross, Craig notched wins at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-0) and No. 3 doubles (6-2).
 
Amar Tahirovic, Bucknell, So., Stuttgart, Germany/Stuttgart
*In Bucknell's 6-1 win over Loyola Maryland, the sophomore recorded a No. 1 singles win (6-1, 6-2) and a No. 2 doubles win (6-1). 
 
Addie Eklund, Colgate, Jr., Bellevue, Wash./ Interlake
*In the Raiders’ 4-3 win over Lafayette, Eklund delivered the duel-clinching point with a 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 singles win on court four.
 
Hamsa Javagal, Lehigh, Jr., Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood
*In Lehigh’s 6-1 win over Bucknell, Javagal defeated the Bison’s Whitney King on court one (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).
 
Herrick Legaspi, Navy, So., Sacramento, Calif.
*Against Georgetown, the sophomore scored a 7-5, 6-1 singles win on court two and a 6-4 doubles victory on court one.
*Against League rival Loyola, He notched a No. 2 singles win (6-3, 6-3) and a No. 1 singles win (6-2).
