BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced that 3,876 student-athletes have made the 2023-24 Academic Honor Roll, including 2,640 honorees on the Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll. The League improved by 260 members from the 2022-23 academic year.
Patriot League student-athletes are selected to the academic honor roll for achieving a 3.2 grade-point average (GPA) or better during the semester in which their League champion is crowned. The 2023-24 season marks the seventh consecutive academic year the League has topped 3,000 honor roll selections. The League previously had 1,236 student-athletes named to the fall academic honor roll.
The Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes from the 15 sports, which conduct their League championship during the spring semester, including baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field, women’s rowing and softball. The Fall Academic Honor Roll encompasses student-athletes from men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball.
During the 2023-24 academic year, 2,153 women were honored across 12 sports while 1,723 men were recognized across 10 sports, both increasing more than 100 student-athletes from last year. Patriot League women’s track and field teams placed a League-high 380 student-athletes on the honor roll, while women’s rowing (322) and men’s track and field (287) ranked second and third, respectively, during the winter and spring seasons. Men’s lacrosse (292), women’s swimming and diving (273), women’s lacrosse (251) and men’s swimming and diving (203) all placed 200 or more student-athletes on the honor roll. Baseball (112), softball (108), women’s basketball (93), men’s basketball (80), men’s tennis (76), women’s tennis (72), men’s golf (52) and women’s golf (39) completed the contributions to the winter-spring honor roll.
Bucknell registered a League-high 526 student-athletes on the academic honor roll, including 352 during the winter and spring seasons. Lafayette placed 427 on the honor roll to rank second, Lehigh was third with 426 honoreess, while Holy Cross (419) and Colgate (414) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Boston University (382), Loyola Maryland (347), Navy (312), American (220) and Army West Point (218) rounded out the League’s 10 full-member institutions.
Associate members Georgetown (93), Fordham (49), MIT (36) and Richmond (7) contributed to the League’s 3,894 honorees during the 2023-24 academic year.
