BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Regular-season champion Holy Cross captured three of the five Patriot League baseball major awards when the League office announced postseason baseball honors on Wednesday. Navy and Lehigh also garnered one accolade apiece.
Holy Cross junior outfielder CJ Egrie claimed Patriot League Baseball Player of the Year, while junior right-handed pitcher Jaden Wywoda was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Year.
Crusaders’ head coach Ed Kahovec received the Patriot League Gene Depew Coach of the Year award for the second straight season after leading Holy Cross to a program-record 17 League wins en route to their first regular-season League title since 2013.
Lehigh senior outfielder Jake Whitlinger collected Patriot League Baseball Defensive Player of the Year honors. Navy freshman catcher Ty DePerno was voted Patriot League Baseball Rookie of the Year.
Overall, 32 student-athletes made the two All-Patriot League baseball teams, including 14 on the first team and 18 on the second team due to ties in the voting. The Crusaders placed a League-high eight players on the two All-League squads, including four on the first team. Army West Point had seven student-athletes earn honors, including four on the first team. Five Navy players made the squad, with Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh, each with four representatives.
Patriot League baseball head coaches voted on the All-League teams and major awards. They were prohibited from voting for their student-athletes or themselves.
2025 Patriot League Baseball Player of the Year
CJ Egrie, Holy Cross, Jr., OF, Ventnor City, N.J./Holy Spirit/Phillips Academy Andover
2025 Statistics: 46 GP, .325 BA, 166 AB, 59 R, 54 H, 12 2B, 3 3B, 5 HR, 24 RBIs, .524 SLG, .467 OBP, 32 SB
*Egrie led the League and ranked 30th in NCAA DI with 59 runs, helping the Crusaders’ offense lead the Patriot League with 353 runs. The junior also stole a League-best 32 stolen bases.
*In League play, Egrie ranked first in OPS (1.236) with a League-best slugging percentage (.705) and tied for first with five home runs. He also finished second in batting (.398) and on-base percentage (.541).
*The two-time Patriot League Player of the Week also posted a 1.000 fielding percentage with 85 putouts and five assists.
2025 Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Year
Jaden Wywoda, Holy Cross, Jr., RHP, Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law
2025 Statistics: 12 GS, 65.2 IP, 9-1, 3.43 ERA, 2 CG, 1 SHO, 55 H, 33 R, 25 ER, 22 BB, 63 K, .228 OPP BA
*Wywoda led the Patriot League in wins (9) and finished fourth in ERA (3.43) and strikeouts (63) to help Holy Cross capture the League’s regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed in the League Championship.
*His nine regular-season wins are tied for the seventh-highest single-season total in Patriot League history
*The two-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Week went 7-0 with a 3.10 ERA and 40 strikeouts in seven starts, spanning 40.2 innings pitched. In League play, his .207 opponents’ batting average ranks third.
2025 Patriot League Baseball Defensive Player of the Year
Jake Whitlinger, Lehigh, Sr., OF, Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College
2025 Statistics: 45 GP, 102 C, 100 PO, 1 A, 1 E, .990 FLD; .282 BA, 6 HR, 27 RBI, 441 SLG, .391 OBP, 20 SB
*Whitlinger tied for fifth in the Patriot League with a .990 fielding percentage, recording 100 putouts on 102 chances in centerfield.
*The two-time All-Patriot League selection posted a .993 fielding percentage during his four seasons in Bethlehem, with 420 putouts and five outfield assists.
*At the plate, Whitlinger tied for second in the League with six home runs.
2025 Patriot League Baseball Rookie of the Year
Ty DePerno, Navy, Fr., C, Santa Clarita, Calif./West Ranch
2025 Statistics: 47 GP, .306 BA, 144 AB, 29 R, 44 H, 5 2B, 4 HR, 28 RBI, .424 SLG, .431 OBP, 4 SB
*DePerno batted .329 (26-for-79) with two home runs and 14 RBIs while slugging .443 and posting a .433 on-base percentage in 25 League games. His .329 League batting average was first among all Patriot League freshmen.
*He finished 14th in the Patriot League, batting .306 (44-for-144) and 10th with a .431 on-base percentage in 47 regular-season games.
*The freshman catcher was a two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
2025 Patriot League Baseball Gene Depew Coach of the Year
Ed Kahovec, Holy Cross
*Kahovec guided Holy Cross to a program-record 18 Patriot League wins to claim the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Championship for the first time since 2013.
*The Crusaders led the Patriot League in batting (.282), runs (353), doubles (105), RBIs (310), slugging percentage (.417) and on-base percentage (.404).
*His pitching staff posted a League-best 4.59 ERA in League play, holding League opponents to a .232 batting average, the lowest mark in the Patriot League.
Twelve Players Earn All-League Honors for the Second Time
Nine First-Team All-Patriot League selections earned All-League status for the second time, including three two-time, first-team honorees. Army West Point’s Andrew Berg (Jr., SP), and William Parker (Jr. at-large) and Lafayette’s Ethan Swidler (Jr., C).
Navy’s Landon Kruer (Sr., RP), who leads all active NCAA DI pitchers and holds the Patriot League’s career saves record (34), is a first-team honoree after being a second-team selection in 2023. Bucknell’s Tyler Dunn (Sr., IF) and Tyler O’Neill (Sr., SP), Holy Cross’ Chris Baillargeon (Sr., IF) and Jimmy King (Sr., IF) all earned first-team honors after making the second team last season.
Lehigh’s Jake Whitlinger (Sr., OF), the defensive player of the year and Lafayette’s Michael Zarrillo (Sr., IF) made the second team after previously earning first-team accolades. Holy Cross’ Danny Macchiarola (Jr., SP) is a two-time second-team selection.
