BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland senior swimming student-athlete Patrick Hayburn captured the 2025 Patriot League Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year award following a vote conducted by the League’s athletic communications staff.
Hayburn is the fourth different Loyola Maryland student-athlete to garner Patriot League Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, joining Joe Fletcher (2014, lacrosse), Franz Rassman (2016, basketball) and Aidan Olmstead (2022, lacrosse).
“Patrick is a tremendous representative of what the Patriot League stands for—excellence in the classroom and excellence in athletic competition," said Loyola Maryland head coach Brian Loeffler. "I am thrilled that he has been selected as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He is well deserving of this as a great ambassador of the League, Loyola and our swimming and diving program.”
The three-time All-Patriot League honoree is the fourth swimming and diving student-athlete to be recognized with the Leaguewide honor, joining Steve Haley (Army, 1998), Ryan Bailey (Navy, 2017) and Micah Oh (Navy, 2021).
The Patriot League Women’s and Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year is presented annually to one female and one male student-athlete. The candidates for the honors are comprised of student-athletes selected as the scholar-athlete of the year in their respective sports. For the 2024-25 academic year, there were 22 different candidates from 24 Patriot League sports.

ABOUT THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
The Patriot League is in its fourth decade of academic and athletic achievement, continually demonstrating that student-athletes can excel at both academics and athletics without sacrificing high standards. The Patriot League’s athletic success is achieved while its member institutions remain committed to its founding principle of admitting and graduating student-athletes who are academically representative of their class. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of a well-rounded education.
