Patriot League Men’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Players of the Week Announced (1.19.26)

Lehigh’s Whitlock, Colgate’s Alekseyenko garner weekly accolades

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior guard Nasir Whitlock collected Patriot League Men’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Player of the Week when the League office announced weekly honors on Monday. Colgate first-year forward Andrew Alekseyenko received his fifth Patriot League Rookie of the Week.  
 
Whitlock earned Patriot League Men’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 30.5 points on 55% (12-of-20) shooting from the field to help the Mountain Hawks split two games last week.
 
Alekseyenko picked up his fifth Patriot League Men’s Basketball PenFed Credit Union Rookie of the Week award. He averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists to help the Raiders go 2-0 last week with wins over Bucknell (95-76) and Loyola Maryland (86-80).
 
American junior guard Greg Jones, Boston University sophomore forward Ben Defty, Colgate junior guard Jalen Cox, Holy Cross sophomore guard Tyler Boston and Navy senior guard Austin Benigni were recognized as honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s men’s basketball athletics communications contacts, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PENFED CREDIT UNION MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nasir Whitlock, Lehigh, Jr., G, Brooklyn Park, Minn./DeLaSalle
*Whitlock posted 30.5 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steal on 55% (22-of-40) shooting from the floor, and 60% shooting (6-of-10) from 3-point range.
*He finished with 30 points, hitting 12-of-20 field-goal attempts, including 4-of-5 from deep to go along with five rebounds and four assists in a 93-91 overtime win at Boston University.
*The junior guard scored 31 points and added three assists and two steals in an 82-79 double overtime loss against Navy.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE PENFED CREDIT UNION MEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Andrew Alekseyenko, Colgate, Fy., F, Brookline, Mass./The Rivers School
*Alekseyenko averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists to lead Colgate to a 2-0 week, with wins over Loyola Maryland and Bucknell.
*The first-year forward finished with 16 points and a career-high 15 points in an 88-80 win vs. Loyola Maryland.
*He scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in the Raiders’ 95-76 victory over Bucknell.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Greg Jones, American, Jr., G, Alexandria, Va./Hayfield School
*Jones led American to a 2-0 week, averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 60% (12-of-20) from the field. The junior guard scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 65-51 win against Navy on Monday. He finished with 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting in a 78-67 win at Army West Point.
 
Ben Defty, Boston University, So., F, Berlin, Germany/St. Thomas More (Conn.)
*Defty averaged a double-double with 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 65% (15-of-23) in losses against Lehigh and Loyola Maryland. The sophomore forward recorded a double-double with a career-high 26 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks against the Mountain Hawks. He finished with a game-high 18 points and 10 boards in a loss at Loyola Maryland.
 
Jalen Cox, Colgate, Jr., G, Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola
*Cox recorded his first triple-double, finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 95-76 win over Bucknell on Saturday. It was the first triple-double by a Patriot League player since Loyola Maryland’s Golden Dike accomplished the feat on Jan. 6, 2024. The junior guard also posted 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists in an 88-80 win at Loyola Maryland on Wednesday.
 
Tyler Boston, Holy Cross, So., G, Severn, Md./Bullis
*Boston averaged 19.0 points on 54.2% (13-for-24) shooting from the floor, including 60% (6-of-10) from 3-point range to help Holy Cross go 1-1 last week. The sophomore guard scored a game-high 20 points and dished out five assists in an 82-75 win against Army West Point. He tallied 18 points in a loss at Lafayette on Saturday.
 
Austin Benigni, Navy, Sr., G, The Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands Christian Academy
*Benigni averaged 23.0 points, including a 34-point outburst to lead Navy to an 82-79 double-overtime victory at Lehigh on Saturday. The senior guard connected on 5-of-10 from 3-point range against the Mountain Hawks and scored 13 of the Mids’ 23 points in the two overtime sessions to clinch the win.
