2026 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Notebook (3.20.26)

Navy travels to Lafayette on Friday; Seven teams in action on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A full slate of Patriot League men’s lacrosse begins tonight as Lafayette (4-1, 1-1 PL) hosts Navy (5-3, 1-1 PL) at 7:30 p.m., while the remaining seven teams are in action on Saturday, with all the games on ESPN+.

On Saturday, Holy Cross (5-3, 2-1 PL) travels to Lehigh (4-4, 1-2 PL) at noon, while No. 16/17 Army West Point (6-2, 1-2 PL) heads to Chapel Hill to battle No. 5 North Carolina in a key non-League game at 2 p.m. from Dorrance Field.

No. 15/16 Boston University (5-2, 3-0 PL) looks to extend its win streak and remain undefeated in League play at Colgate (2:30 p.m.), while Bucknell (6-2, 2-1 PL) and Loyola Maryland (4-4, 1-1 PL) conclude the day’s action at 3:30 p.m. from Ridley Athletic Complex.

THIS WEEK IN PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S LACROSSE (MONDAY, MARCH 16 – THURSDAY, MARCH 19)
Tuesday, March 17: (Georgetown 14, at Loyola Maryland 7 - BOX SCORE) Georgetown scored five straight goals in the second quarter to defeat Loyola Maryland, 14-7, on Tuesday. Sophomore attack Mason Cook led the Greyhounds with four points on three goals and an assist.

Tuesday, March 17: (at Lehigh 14, Villanova 7 - BOX SCORE) Lehigh defeated Villanova 14-7 at the Ulrich Sports Complex as first-year attack Finn Morgan led the Mountain Hawks with five goals, one assist and four ground balls. Sophomore attack Luke Breslin added a hat trick and junior goalkeeper Kasey Heath finished with 11 saves in 55 minutes.

THREE PATRIOT LEAGUERS NAMED TO INSIDE LACROSSE’S FRESHMAN IMPACT RANKINGS
A trio of Patriot League men’s lacrosse student-athletes was named to Inside Lacrosse’s Freshman Impact Rankings, led by Lehigh first-year attack Finn Morgan at No. 6. Morgan currently ranks second in the Patriot League in goals (27) and goals per game (3.63) as well as fifth in points (33) and points per game (4.13).

Boston University freshman midfielder Peyton Forte was ranked 14th with 20 points on 15 goals and five assists.

Holy Cross freshman faceoff specialist Shane McDonnell received honorable mention as he leads the Patriot League in faceoff win percentage (.631).

KENAN EVERHART’S EMERGENCE TIED TO LOYOLA’S TURNAROUND
The Loyola Maryland men’s lacrosse team is off to a 4-4 start overall and a 1-1 start in the Patriot League as junior attack Kenan Everhart is second on the Greyhounds with 29 points on 16 goals and 13 assists.

PATRIOT LEAGUERS AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS IN SEVERAL STATISTICAL CATEGORIES
Army West Point senior Sean Byrne is among the nation’s best goalkeepers as he ranks second in save percentage (.613) and seventh in goals-against average (8.10), while leading the Patriot League in both categories. Additionally, Lafayette senior goalkeeper Joe Doherty is eighth in goals-against average (8.33) and 15th in save percentage (.548).

Offensively, Lehigh sophomore attack Luke Breslin ranks third in NCAA Division I in assists per game (2.67), Boston University sophomore attack Timothy Shannehan is fourth in points per game (5.43) and Loyola Maryland sophomore attack Mason Cook sits fifth in goals per game (4.00). The trio each leads their respective categories in the Patriot League.

Several additional Patriot League student-athletes rank inside the top 15 for goals per game, including Lehigh first-year attack Finn Morgan (8th, 3.38), Boston University sophomore attack Timothy Shannehan (12th, 3.14), Lafayette sophomore attack Benjamin DiBattista (t-14th, 3.13) and Bucknell senior attack Michael Meyer (t-14th, 3.13).

At the faceoff ‘X’, the Patriot League features five specialists who rank in the top-25 for win percentage, led by Holy Cross freshman Shane McDonnell in seventh at .631. Lafayette junior Nick Faccone (.605) is 12th, Bucknell junior Colin McLoy (.588) ranks 17th, Boston University sophomore Madden Murphy (.578) sits in 21st and Navy senior Colin Shadowens (.573) is 24th.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY’S DEFENSIVE UNIT LEADING THE WAY
Boston University’s defense group has led the Terriers to a 5-2 overall record and a 3-0 start in the Patriot League as they lead NCAA Division I in caused turnovers per game (13.43) and rank second in opponent clear percentage (.690).

LEHIGH’S CHECO BREAKS NCAA DIVISION I CAREER CAUSED TURNOVERS RECORD
On Saturday, Feb. 21, Lehigh’s Richard Checo made history as the senior defender broke the NCAA Division I career record for caused turnovers. The Oakton, Va. native surpassed Lehigh’s Craig Chick (2016-19) and now has 163 career caused turnovers across 50 games.

Checo continues to lead the Patriot League in caused turnovers (21) and caused turnovers per game (2.63), while ranking tied for fourth and fifth nationally.

SIX PATRIOT LEAGUE STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO 2026 TEWAARATON WATCH LIST
Six Patriot League men’s lacrosse student-athletes were named to the 2026 Tewaaraton Watch List by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Tuesday. Army West Point senior goalkeeper Sean Byrne and senior midfielder Evan Plunkett, Boston University sophomore attack Timothy Shannehan, Colgate senior midfielder Hunter Drouin, Lehigh senior defender Richard Checo and Navy junior defender AJ Marsh represented the League.

The 50 men selected represent the first group from which the eventual 25 nominees, five finalists and the award winner will be chosen. The Watch List will be updated twice, with additions being named on March 5 and March 26.

Bucknell received two of the five Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Monday. Boston University, Holy Cross and Lehigh each garnered one weekly honor.

SIX PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAYERS SELECTED AS USA LACROSSE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS
Army West Point led the Patriot League with two student-athletes on the 2026 USA Lacrosse Division I Men’s Preseason All-American teams. Senior midfielder Evan Plunkett and senior goalkeeper Sean Byrne were both selected to the Second Team.

Boston University sophomore attack Timothy Shannehan, Colgate senior midfielder Hunter Drouin, Lehigh senior defender Richard Checo and Navy senior defender AJ Marsh received honorable mention.
USA LACROSSE MAGAZINE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA RELEASE

SEVEN PATRIOT LEAGUE STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED NIKE LACROSSE MEDIA ALL-AMERICANS
The Black Knights had two players named to the Nike Lacrosse Media All-America teams when it was announced by Inside Lacrosse, as Plunkett landed on the first team, while Byrne earned second-team honors.

Navy junior faceoff specialist Zach Hayashi accompanied Marsh as well as Boston University’s Shannehan, Colgate’s Drouin and Lehigh’s Checho, as honorable mentions.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S LACROSSE ON CBS SPORTS NETWORK
The Patriot League and CBS Sports announced their 2026 spring television schedule on CBS Sports Network, which features eight men’s lacrosse games.
For the 17th season, CBS Sports Network will be the home of the 2025 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Championship semifinals and championship game. Coverage of the two semifinal matchups begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 1. The League championship game will air at 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.
