2026 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship Preview (4.16.26)

Lafayette and Holy Cross set to battle in first round; four quarterfinal matches start on Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 2026 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship will be held at Bucknell’s Varsity Tennis Courts in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, beginning Thursday, April 16, and concluding Sunday, April 19. In case of inclement weather, matches will be moved indoors to the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport, Pa.

Boston University enters as the top seed and defending champion after posting a 6-0 record in League play. Navy is the No. 2 seed, followed by Army West Point at No. 3 and Lehigh at No. 4.

The tournament begins Thursday afternoon with a first-round matchup between No. 8 Lafayette and No. 9 Holy Cross at 3 p.m.

Quarterfinal action starts Friday, with matches beginning at 9 a.m. Top-seeded Boston University will face the winner of Lafayette and Holy Cross. No. 4 Lehigh will take on No. 5 Loyola Maryland at 10:45 a.m., No. 3 Army West Point will face No. 6 Bucknell at 1:15 p.m., and No. 2 Navy will meet No. 7 Colgate at 3:45 p.m.

Semifinal matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18. The championship match is set for noon on Sunday, April 19.

The John “Pat” Rooney Award
The John “Pat” Rooney Award, presented to the Patriot League Championship MVP, is selected by the winning team’s head coach following Sunday’s championship match. Boston University freshman Gabriella Mikaul earned the award in 2025 after going 4-1 during the tournament and finishing undefeated at No. 2 singles.
 
2025 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship Recap
No. 2 seed Boston University defeated top-seeded Army West Point, 4-2, to capture the 2025 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship presented by Credit Union 1. The title marked the seventh in program history for the Terriers.

Boston University opened the match by sweeping doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Uma Bakaiyte and Gabriella Mikaul earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Nina Gulbransen and Emily Zhao clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The Terriers extended their lead to 2-0 after Madison Liu recorded a straight-sets win at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Army West Point responded to tie the match at 2-2, as Cooper Jackson earned a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 1 singles, followed by Vennmukiil Mathivanan’s three-set win at No. 4 singles.

Mikaul put Boston University back in front, 3-2, with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles. Zhao clinched the championship with a three-set win at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4).

Returning All-League Players Set to Make Impact at 2026 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Tournament
Seven All-League selections from the 2025 season return for this year’s championship.

Boston University returns reigning Rookie of the Year and first-team selection Gabriella Mikaul, who has competed at No. 1 singles this season.

Army West Point brings back Venn Mathivanan and Emma Sy, who have been key contributors at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Bucknell’s Abby Platt, a 2025 second-team All-League selection, returns at No. 1 singles for the sixth-seeded Bison.

Lehigh junior Maggie Forkner returns to the lineup at No. 1 singles, leading the Mountain Hawks to back-to-back top-four finishes.

Colgate senior Amelia Galin, a 2025 first-team selection, returns at No. 1 singles as the Raiders prepare to face Navy in the quarterfinal round.

Lafayette’s Hanna Ganchi is back at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the Leopards prepare to face Holy Cross in the first round.
