No. 2 Navy Upsets No. 1 Lehigh to Claim 2026 Patriot League Men’s Tennis Championship

The Mids rally in singles play to earn 16th title in program history

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — No. 2 seed Navy defeated No. 1 Lehigh, 4-2, to claim the 2026 Patriot League Men’s Tennis Championship. The title marks the Mids’ 16th League crown and their first since 2023.

Lehigh opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Wyeth Anzilotti and Henry Stoller earned a 6-2 victory on Court 2 before Alex Van Lumich and Sean Jaeger clinched the point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles for a 1-0 Mountain Hawks lead.

Navy quickly responded in singles play, winning four first sets across the six courts. Lehigh extended its lead to 2-0 after Van Lumich cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, but the Mids answered with a dominant stretch to take control of the match.

Herrick Legaspi put Navy on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles to cut the deficit to 2-1. Steve Nguyen followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles to even the match at 2-2. Navy took its first lead of the afternoon when Jeffrey Etterbeek earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, making it 3-2.

Charlie Spencer clinched the championship for the Mids at No. 3 singles, battling to a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 victory to secure the championship win for Navy.

Spencer was named the 2026 Joe Abrahamson Memorial Award winner, which is awarded to the Patriot League Championship MVP. The honor is selected by the winning team’s head coach following the championship match.

Spencer went 5-1 across three matches for the Mids in the tournament, including the championship seal win at No. 3 singles against Lehigh.
