BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point, Colgate and Holy Cross each collected one Patriot League women’s volleyball weekly award, when the League office announced the honors on Tuesday.
The Patriot League women’s volleyball players of the week are selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
Patriot League Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week
Tiana Owens, Colgate, Jr., Outside Hitter, San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic
*Owens led Colgate to a 3-0 weekend, winning the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament following victories over Dartmouth (3-0), Northeastern (3-2) and UAlbany (3-1).
*The junior recorded 52 kills, hitting .215, 26 digs, seven service aces and a pair of blocks.
*The San Diego, Calif. native is third in the Patriot League in points per set (3.78) and kills per set (3.35).
Patriot League Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Lacey Murphy, Holy Cross, Jr., Middle Blocker, Wenham, Mass./Bishop Fenwick
*Murphy guided Holy Cross to a 3-1 weekend with victories over Marist (3-1), Stonehill (3-1) and Manhattan (3-1) to be named to the 21st Friar Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team.
*The junior totaled 23 kills on a .347 hitting percentage, 21 blocks (1.40 per set), nine digs, two service aces and two assists.
*The Wenham, Mass. native is fifth in the Patriot League in blocks per set (1.06) and sixth in aces per set (0.44).
Patriot League Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Marlee Lightsey, Army West Point, Fr., Outside Hitter, New Braunfels, Texas/Canyon
*Lightsey, the reigning Rookie of the Week, finished Army West Point’s 1-2 week with 22 kills on a .288 hitting percentage, 14 digs, three service aces, one block and a .926 reception percentage.
*In the Black Knights’ sweep at Liberty, the freshman had 11 kills on a .450 hitting percentage, while adding five digs and an ace.
*The New Braunfels, Texas native ranks seventh in the Patriot League in aces per set (0.43).
Honorable Mention
Bella Marrero, American, Jr., Libero, Burbank, Calif./Campbell Hall
*Marrero logged 47 digs (5.22 per set), four assists, two service aces and just three reception errors in American’s 2-1 week.
*The junior had 19 digs in a three-set victory over Howard and 11 digs in a sweep of Iowa State.
*The reigning Libero of the Year is fifth in the Patriot League in digs per set (3.88).
Elise Sterling, American, Jr., Middle Blocker, Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg
*Sterling led American to a 2-1 week with 39 points, pairing 28 kills (3.11 per set) on .306 hitting percentage with 15 total blocks.
*The junior produced nine kills and four blocks in a sweep of Howard as well as eight kills and five blocks in a three-set victory over the Cyclones.
*The Orland Park, Ill. native is fourth in the Patriot League in points per set (3.75), sixth in blocks per set (1.03) and seventh in kills per set (2.76).
Marion Haskell, Bucknell, Fr., Opposite Hitter, Birmingham, Ala./John Carroll Catholic
*Haskell posted 21 kills on a .333 hitting percentage in Bucknell’s 2-1 weekend at the Siena Tournament.
*The freshman had 10 kills, hitting .389, in the Bison’s sweep of Delaware State.
Reagan Knipling, Colgate, Fy., Setter, Richmond, Texas/Foster
*Knipling guided Colgate to winning the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament with victories over Dartmouth (3-0), Northeastern (3-2), and UAlbany (3-1).
*The first-year totaled 66 assists (5.50 per set), including 20+ in each match, and 21 total digs (1.75 per set).
Hannah Langton, Colgate, Jr., Libero, Kingston, Ill./Genoa-Kingston
*Langton was a defensive staple to help Colgate win the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament as the Raiders defeated Dartmouth (3-0), Northeastern (3-2), and UAlbany (3-1).
*The junior 68 total digs (5.67 per set), 25 assists and two service aces.
*The Kington, Ill. native is second in the Patriot League in digs (150) and digs per set (4.41).
Kate Teepe, Holy Cross, Fr., Right-Side Hitter, St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph’s Academy
*Teepe was named to the 21st Friar Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team following Holy Cross’ 3-1 weekend, featuring wins over Marist (3-1), Stonehill (3-1) and Manhattan (3-1).
*The freshman hit .296 with 23 kills, while adding eight total blocks and four digs.
Alyssa Chu, Lafayette, Fr., Libero, San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry
*Chu helped Lafayette to a 3-1 week as she totaled 87 digs, 16 assists and five service aces in victories over NJIT (3-1), Rhode Island (3-2) and Quinnipiac (3-0).
*The freshman continues to lead the Patriot League in digs (176) and digs per set (4.63).
Olivia Lasee, Lehigh, Sr., Middle Blocker, Appleton, Wis.
*Lasee had a strong defensive showing in Lehigh’s 1-1 weekend as senior totaled 12 blocks to go along with 15 kills on a .297 hitting percentage and seven digs.
*The senior posted a career-high 10 blocks in the Mountain Hawks’ five-set win over Big 12 opponent West Virginia.
Natalie Luscomb, Lehigh, Gr., Right-Side Hitter, Annapolis, Md.
*Luscomb recorded 27 kills on a .407 hitting percentage and six blocks in a 1-1 weekend for Lehigh.
*The Annapolis, Md. native led the Mountain Hawks to a five-set victory over the Mountaineers with 14 kills on a .448 hitting percentage.
