The official dedication for the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility is slated for Nov. 4 at 1:15 p.m., prior to the Navy men's soccer game against Bucknell at 3 p.m. The dedication is open to the public.
"We are really excited about dedicating this beautiful building and wonderful new facility here at the Naval Academy," Navy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk said. "This is a great day in the history of Navy soccer, and I hope everyone will come out and see the commitment to Navy soccer."
The ceremony will take place on the patio behind the Anders "Hall of Honor." The Warner family along with Maj. General William A. Anders for whom the "Hall of Honor" is named for, will be in attendance in addition to the Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Adm. John Ryan, USN. The team captains for the Navy men's and women's varsity soccer teams will also be on hand.
The $4.5 million Glenn Warner Soccer Facility is one of the finest college soccer facilities in the nation, financed entirely by private contributions. It was designed by the Baltimore, Md. architectural firm of Cochran, Stephenson & Donkervoet and constructed by Whiting-Turner, Inc. of Baltimore, Md. The 16,300 square-foot facility houses the Naval Academy's men's and women's varsity soccer teams.
Named after the legendary 30-year head coach, Glenn Warner, who guided the Midshipmen to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, four Final Four appearances, one national championship, 28 winning seasons, and a record of 243-65-31 during his tenure. In a stretch from 1962-67, Coach Warner's teams put together a string of 48 regular-season victories without a defeat (70-6-3) and qualified for five straight NCAA Tournaments. Coach Warner, who produced 26 All-Americans, was recently inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame and is a recipient of soccer's top award, The Honor Award.
The Anders "Hall of Honor" recognizes the leadership, character, and commitment of former Naval Academy soccer players and features 13 trophy cases and display areas that depict Navy's storied soccer history and tradition. From former Navy soccer players who achieved excellence in military service and leadership, to past Navy All-Americans and team captains, the "Hall of Honor" pays tribute to former Midshipmen and their military, civilian and athletic accomplishments.
